مَا سَنَى شُعلَةٍ إِلى الشَّمْسِ تُهْدَى
هَلْ لِرَمْزٍ أَدَاءُ مَا لاَ يُؤَدَّى
No flame has ever risen towards the sun to be guided,
Can a symbol fulfill what cannot be fulfilled?
جُهْدُ مَا تَفْعَلُونَ رَأْياً وَسَعْياً
كَيْفَ يَقْضِي حَقَّ المَلِيكِ المُفَدَّى
Your efforts and opinions cannot sufficiently repay
The Rightful King who sacrificed Himself.
قَبَسٌ مِنْهُ مَا حَمَلْتُمْ إِليْهِ
أَيُّ شُكْرٍ كِفَاءُ مَا هُوَ أَسْدَى
Any gratitude is inadequate for His greater giving,
The rays you bear are but drops from Him.
شَمَلَ الشَّرْقَ فَضْلُ فَارُوقَ لاَ يَنْ
فَدُ أَوْ تَنْفَدُ الأَسَالِيبُ حَمْدَا
The excellence of the Pioneering Farouq encompassed the East,
Praise is never exhausted, streams of words flow endlessly.
لَيْسَ لُبْنَانُ فِي الوَفَاءِ بِمَسْبُو
قٍ وَمَاذَا أَعَادَ فِيهِ وَأَبْدَى
Lebanon is peerless in its loyalty,
What has it restored and initiated therein!
أَرْسَلَ الشُّعْلَةَ الَّتِي لَقِيَتْ شُعْ
لَةَ مِصرٍ فَزَادَتَا الوُدَّ وُدَّا
It sent the flame that met with Egypt’s flame,
Bringing their affection and amity ever greater.
كُلُّ نُور يَخْبُو وَنُورهُمَا فِي ال
ذِّكْرِ أَبْقَى مِنْ كُلِّ نُورٍ وَأَهْدَى
Every light fades, but theirs in remembrance
Outlasts all lights, ever enduring and guided.
يَا بَنِي مِصْرَ يَا بَنِي الضَّادِ إِنَّ ال
لهَ آتَاكُمُ مِنَ الأَمْرِ رُشْدَا
O people of Egypt, O people of the emphatic D!
God has granted you sound guidance in authority.
فَائْتَلَفْتُمْ مُوَفَّقِينَ وَجَلَّى
لَكُمُ النَّهْجَ طَالِعٌ لاَحَ سَعْدَا
You have united in success, and for you
Dawn’s light has shone, heralding good fortune.
عَهْدُ فَارُوقَ كَانَ لِليُمْنِ عَهْداً
مِن قَدِيمٍ وَعَادَ لِليُمْنِ عَهْدَا
Farouq’s era was an age of prosperity,
And it has returned as an age of prosperity.
حَفِظَ اللهُ لِلْحِمَى مَنْ رَعَاهُ
وَحَمَى حَوْضَهُ وَلَمْ يَأْلُ جُهّدَا
God protect the guardian who tended it,
Who protected its basin and never wearied.
عَاهِلٌ مُفْرَدٌ صَلاَحاً وَإِصْ
لاَحاً وَعَدْلاً وَصِدقَ عَزْمٍ وَرِفْدَا
A unique ruler in reform, reforming,
Justice, true resolve and constant support.
هُوَ هَادِي الهُدَاةِ وَالقَائِدُ الأَعْ
لَى لأَبْنَاءِ مِصْرَ شَعْباً وَجُنْدَا
He guides the rightly guided, the highest leader
Of Egypt’s people and army.
يَا مَلِيكاً مِيلاَدُهُ كَانَ لِلإِقْبَ
بَالِ بُشْرَى وَلِلتَّقَدُّمِ وَعْدَا
O king whose birth brought good tidings
To the future, and promise of progress,
يَوْمَ ذِكْرَاهُ مَا تَجَدَّدَ إِلاَّ
قَلَّدَتْهُ مَفَاخِرُ العَامِ عِقْدَا
On his anniversary, honors were renewed
As the year crowned him with its jewels.
هَلْ رَأَى الشَّرْقُ مُنْذُ كَانَتْ بِهِ الأَ
عْيادُ عِيداً أَزْهَى ضِياءً وَأَنْدَى
Has the East, since first graced with feasts,
Seen a festival more radiant and glorious?
عِشْ عَزْيزاً وَاهْنَأْ بِعُمْرٍ مَدِيد
وَابْلُغِ الغَايَتَيْنِ جَاهاً وَمَجْدَا
Live sublime, enjoy lengthened life,
And attain the twin goals of prestige and glory!
