1. كَانَتْ حيَاتِي لِي فَأَضْحَتْ لِلَّتِي

    أَحْبَبتُهَا مَاذَا جَنَتْ عَينَايَا

    My life was mine, but now belongs to she

    Whom I have loved; what harm have done my eyes!

  2. بِهِما جَلَبْتُ وَقَدْ نَظَرْتُكِ شَقْوَتِي

    وَحَسِبْتُ أَنِّي جَالِبٌ نِعمايا

    With them I brought misfortune willfully,

    And thought that I was bringing blessings high.

  3. لا عَيْشَ إِلاَّ بِالمُنَى وَشَكِيَّتِي

    أَنِّي قَصَرْتُ عَلَى رِضَاكِ مُنَايَا

    No life without desires! My sorest sigh

    Is that I fell too short of thy heart's prize.
