يَا عَائِدُونَ مِنَ الجِهَادِ سَلامُ
عَادَ الصَّفَاءُ وَطَابَتِ الأَيَّامُ
O you who are returning from jihad, peace be upon you
Serenity has returned and the days have become good
بِالأَمْسِ ألامٌ جَرَعْتُمْ صَابَهَا
وَالْيَوْمَ أَجْنَتْ شُهْدَهَا الآلامُ
Yesterday you drank bitter sorrows
And today its pains produced honey
مَاذَا تَحَمَّلْتُمْ وَلَمْ تَتَزَعْزَعُوا
دُونَ الَّذِي تَبْغُونَ وَهْوَ جُسَامُ
What did you endure without wavering
Other than what you desire, and it is glory
حَقَّقْتُمُ الأُمْنِيَّةَ الكُبْرَى وَلَمْ
تُزْجَ الجُيُوشُ وَلَمْ يُسَلَّ حُسَامُ
You fulfilled the greatest wish, and neither
Were armies driven back, nor swords unsheathed
يَحْدُوكُمُ الإِيمَانُ وَالإِيمَانُ إِنْ
يَكُ صَادِقاً فَلَزِيمُهُ الإِقْدَامُ
Faith urges you, and true faith, if
It remains loyal, its companion is daring
حَقُّ البِلادِ طَلَبْتُمُوهُ كَامِلاً
لا خَوْفَ يَنْقُصُهُ وَلا اسْتِسْلامُ
You sought the full right of the country
With no fear diminishing it, nor surrender
وَاللهُ وَفَّقَكُمْ فَكَانَتْ نُصْرَةً
شَهِدَتْ لَكُمْ بِجَلالِهَا الأَقْوَامُ
And God granted you success, so it was a victory
That nations witnessed to its majesty for you
يَا مُصْطَفَى مِصْرَ الرَّفِيعَ مَقامُهُ
هَيْهَاتَ يَبْدِلُ مَا بَلَغْتَ مَقَامُ
O Mustafa, Egypt’s lofty position
Alas! None can change what you have attained in status
أَيْقَنْتُ حِينَ رَأَيْتُ مَا أَبْلَيْتَهُ
فِي الذَّوْدِ عَنْهَا أَنَّكَ الضِّرْغَامُ
I was certain, when I saw what you defended
That you are the impregnable fortress
نَاضَلْتَ حَتَّى لَمْ تَدَعْ فِي جَعْبَةٍ
سَهْماً وَمِنْ حُجَجِ المُحِقِّ سِهَامُ
You fought until you left no arrow
Nor argument for the righteous in your quiver
وَغَصَبْتَ إِعْجَابَ الأُولَى فَاوَضْتَهُمْ
فَاليَوْمَ تَكْرِيمٌ وَأَمْسِ خِصَامُ
You seized the admiration of the foremost ones, so you brought them
Today there is respect, and yesterday there was contention
لا بِدْعَ أَنْ تَلْقَى بِمِصْرَ حَفَاوَةً
كَلَّتْ عَنِ اسْتِيفَائِهَا الأَقْلامُ
It is inevitable that you meet Egypt with warmth
The pens have been exhausted in describing it
فِي البَحْرِ أَوْ فِي البَرِّ زِينَاتٌ إِلَى
أَقْصَى مَدًى وَتَأَلُّبٌ وَزِحَامُ
Ornaments on land or sea, to the furthest
Expanse, with processions and crowds
وَالجَوُّ تَطْوِيهِ الصُّقُورُ وَتَحْتَها
فِي كُلِّ جَوٍّ تَخْفُقُ الأَعْلامُ
The sky, the falcons fly across it, and beneath them
The flags flutter in every air
زُمَرٌ بِلا عَدَدٍ هُجُومُهَا
حَفَّتْ بِرَكْبِكَ وَالوَلاءُ نِظَامُ
Countless groups, their attack
Surrounded your caravan, and loyalty is their system
فَتْحٌ عَظِيمٌ لِلبِلادِ فَتَحْتَهُ
إِكْفَاؤُهُ الإِكْبَارُ وَالإِعْظَامُ
A great victory you opened up for the country
To match it is to show reverence and glorification
بِثِقَاتِكَ الغُرِّ المَيَامِينِ الأُولَى
صَحِبُوكَ لَمْ يَعْزُزْ عَلَيْكَ مَرَامُ
With your brilliant, professional, experienced vanguard
They accompanied you, no ambition made them weak
حَمَلُوا الأَمَانَةَ وَهْيَ عِبْءٌ مُرْهِقٌ
لا تَسْتَقِل بِهِ الجِبَالُ وَقَامُوا
They carried the burden of responsibility, and it is a crushing load
That mountains cannot easily bear, yet they stood
بِثَبَاتِهِمْ وَبِحِلْمِهِمْ وَبِعِلْمِهِمْ
فَعَلُوا فِعَالَ الجَيْشِ وَهْوَ لُهَامُ
With their steadfastness, wisdom and knowledge
They acted as an army, and it is intrepid
هَلْ يُسْعِفُ الإِيجَازُ فِي تَصْوِيرِهِمْ
يَا بُعْدَ مَا يَسْمُو لَهُ الرَّسَّامُ
Can brevity suffice in describing them
O how far from what the artists aspire to!
