جَبرَ الْقُلُوبَ مُقِيلُكَ الْجَبَّارُ

وَجَلا قُطُوبَ الريْبِ الاِسْتِبْشَارُ

The Almighty has healed your heart by bringing you relief

And dispelled the doubts that troubled you

إِنْهَضْ كَمَالَ الدِّينِ تَرْعَاكَ الْعُلى

وَيَحُفُّكَ الإِجْلالُ وَالإِكْبَارُ

Arise, O perfection of faith, destiny exalts you

And you are honored and extolled

أَيُهَاضُ عَظْمُكَ إِنهَا لَعَظِيمَةٌ

نَزلَتْ وَأَرْزاءُ الْكِبَارِ كِبَارُ

Your greatness astounds, it is indeed magnificent

It descended while the great ones are but great

إِنْ عُطِّلَ السَّعُي الأَصِيلُ هُنَيْهَةً

أَغْنَاكَ مِنْ لُطْفِ الْقَدِيرِ معارُ

If honest efforts are hindered for a while

The Grace of the Almighty sustains you

فِي الطِّبِّ آيَاتٌ تُرِينَا فَضْلَ مَا

يَمْحُو الْحَلِيمُ وَيُثْبِتُ الْقَهَّارُ

In medicine there are signs that show the favor of Him

Who erases and confirms by His Might

تِلْكَ الْعَزِيمَةُ لا تَزالُ كَعَهْدِهَا

وَكَمَا يُحِبُّ المُقْدِمُ الْكَرَّارُ

Such is your resolve, ever true to its covenant

And your accustomed frequent generosity

وَإِذَا مَرَاحِلُكَ الْبَعِيدَةُ أُرْجِئَتْ

لَمْ يُرْجَأْ الإِيرَادُ وَالإِصْدَارُ

If your distant goals are postponed

Revenue and expenses continue unabated

سَلِمَتْ نُهَاكَ وَدَامَ فِي تَصْرِيفِهَا

مَا فِيهِ نَفْعٌ لِلْحِمَى وَفخَارُ

Your affairs are safe and as long as their management

Benefits the protectorate and brings pride

كمْ فِي مَآثِرِكَ الجَلائِلِ شاِفعٌ

بِشَفاِئكَ اتَّضَحَتْ لَهُ آثارُ

How many glories of yours intercede

Through your recovery, their traces manifest

جُودٌ كَجُودِ أَبِيكَ لمْ يُعْلَنْ وَكمْ

سُدِلَتْ عَلى حُرَمٍ بِهِ أَسْتَارُ

A generosity like your father’s, undisclosed, how many

Sanctuaries were veiled from it by curtains

وَتَمَاسَكتْ فِي الْبَأْسِ أَرْمَاقٌ بِهِ

وَنَجَتْ مِنَ الْبُؤْسِ المُبِيدِ دِيَارُ

Through it lines stood firm in adversity

And homesteads escaped utter destruction

فَالْيَوْمَ هَاتِيكَ النُّفُوسُ تَفَتَّحَتْ

بِشْراً كَمَا تَتَفَتَّحُ الأَزْهَارُ

Today, these souls bloom

With good news, as flowers bloom

سُمِعَتْ ضَرَاعَتُهُنَّ فِيكَ وَلُبِّيَتْ

بِالبُرْءِ أَدْعِيَةٌ لَهُنَّ حِرَارُ

Their pleadings for you were heard and their

Heartfelt prayers for recovery fulfilled

مَوْلايَ لا ضَيْرٌ عَلَيْكَ فَإِنَّهُ

مَا ضَارَهَا أَنْ تُحْجَبَ الأَقْمَارُ

My Master, you owe no apology, for it did not

Harm them if the moons were eclipsed

لَيْسَ الرِّجَالُ مِنَ الْعَثَارِ بِمَأْمَنٍ

هَيْهَاتَ يُؤْمَنُ فِي الْحَياةِ عَثَارُ

Men cannot be safe from mishaps

Alas, life's pitfalls cannot be avoided

وَكَأَنَّمَا الأَخْطَارُ أَعْلَقُ بِالأُولى

فِي هَذِهِ الدُّنْيَا لَهُمْ أَخْطَارُ

It's as if calamities more often strike the eminent

For them in this world there are more perils

أَوَ مَا نَرَى شُهُبَ السَّمَاءِ كَأَنَّهَا

أُكَرٌ بِهَا تَتَلاعَبُ الأَقْدَارُ

Or do we not see meteors in the sky like

Fiery sparks played with by fate

لِلّهِ فِي نُوَبِ الْحَوَادِثِ حِكْمَةٌ

ليْسَتْ تُحِيطُ بِكُنْهِهَا الأَفْكَارُ

In the cycles of events, God has wisdom

Minds cannot encompass its essence

بِالأَمْسِ تَنْشُدُ فِي المَهَامِهِ رَوْعَةً

عَذْرَاءَ لَمْ تَسْتَجْلِها الأَبْصَارُ

Yesterday you walked boldly into the fray

An untamed mare no eyes had glimpsed before

تَرْتَاضُ أَوْ تَرْتَادُ كُلَّ دَغِيلَةٍ

كَمَنَتْ بِهَا الأَنْيَابُ وَالأَظْفَارُ

Trembling or trampling every thicket

With claws and fangs tearing them apart

وَلَقَدْ تَزُورُ بِهَا مُلُوكَ سِبَاعِهَا

ولَقدْ تُنَاجِزُهَا وَما لَك ثارُ

Indeed you roar at its beastly kings

And confront them though you have no vengeance

وَلَقدْ تَبِيتُ وَلسْتَ مِنْهَا فِي قِرىً

وَحِيَالَ رَكبِكَ لا تُشَبُّ النَّارُ

Indeed you spend the night yet are not safe

And for your caravan, no fires are lit

بِالأَمْسِ تطْوِي فِي المَوَامِي مَجْهَلاً

لا يَسْتَبِينُ لِخَابِطِيْهِ مَنَارُ

Yesterday you crossed a lightless wilderness

With no guiding lamps for its wanderers

لِلْعِلْمِ فِيهِ خَبِيئَةٌ مَظنُونَةٌ

حالَتْ مَهَامِهُ دُونَهَا وَقِفارُ

Knowledge has a suspected treasure there

Impassable wastes hid it from view

مِمَّا تَخَلَّفَ مِنْ صَحائِفِ بَاحِثٍ

أَرْدَتْهُ مَسْبَغَةٌ بِهَا وَأُوارُ

Of manuscripts left by searching scholars

Time has obscured some and ruined others

تَمْضِي فَتَطْلُبُهَا بِحَيْثُ تعَسَّفَتْ

فِيهَا الرُّوَاةُ وَطَاشَتِ الأَخْبَارُ

You march to seek them wherever they scattered

When narrators erred and news confused

حتَّى ظَفِرْتَ بِهَا وَقَلْبُكَ مُلْهَمٌ

كَشَفَتْ موَاقِعَهَا لَهُ الأَسْرارُ

Until you found them, your heart divinely inspired

Revealing to it secrets and mysteries

بِالأَمْسِ تَقْحُمُ لوبِيا ورِمَالُهَا

وَعْثاءُ لاَ نَجَعٌ وَلا آبَارُ

Yesterday you marched into desolate plains

With no pasture or wells

مُسْتَهْدِياً تِيهَ الْفَلا مُسْتَطْلِعاً

مَا تُضْمِرُ الأَنْجادُ وَالأَغْوارُ

Seeking to unravel the mystery of the wilderness

And what the dunes and valleys hide

تَغْزُو وَفتَّاحُ المَغَالِقِ مِنْ أُولِي

عِلْمٍ وَفَنِّ جَيْشُكَ الْجَرَّارُ

Advancing, opener of strongholds, with your dauntless army

Of those knowledgeable in science and art

فَإِذَا الْفِجَاجُ وَلا يُحَدُّ لَها مَدىً

صُوَرٌ وَجُمْلةُ حَالِهَا أَسْطَارُ

There were chasms with no end in sight

Mazes with secrets encoded in lines

وَإِذَا حَقِيبَتُكَ الصَّغِيرَةُ تَحْتَوِي

ذُخْراً تَضَاءَلُ دُونَهُ الأَذْخَارُ

While your little satchel contains riches

Next to which treasures pale

سِفْرٌ إِلى العِرْفَانِ أَهْدَى طُرْفَةً

لَمْ تُهْدِهَا مِنْ قَبْلِهِ الأَسْفَارُ

A journey to knowledge more insightful

Than any journey before

أَسْرَفْتَ مَا أَسْرَفْتَ فِي إِعْدَادِهِ

حتَّى تَجاهلَ قَدْرَهُ الدِّينارُ

You exhausted yourself preparing it

That dinars forgot their worth

بِالأَمْسِ فِي أَقْصَى الجِوَاءِ مُشَرِّقاً

وَمُغَرِّباً تَنْأَى بِكَ الأَسْفَارُ

Yesterday you traveled the far horizons

East and west, travels taking you afar

وَتَكَادُ لاَ تَخْفى عَلَيْكَ خَفِيَّةٌ

قَرُبَتْ بِهَا أَوْ شَطَّتِ الأَقْطَارُ

Almost no hidden thing escapes you

Be it near or remote lands

كَالْكَوْكَبِ السَّيَّارِ مَا طَالَعْتَهَا

وَأَخُوكَ فِيهَا الْكَوْكَبُ السَّيَّارُ

Like the wandering star you observe them

While your brother is the wandering star

عَجَباً سَلِمْتَ وَلَمْ تَسُمْكَ أَذَاتَهَا

بِيدٌ رَكِبْتَ مُتُونَهَا وَبِحَارُ

Amazingly you return unharmed though they did not

Spare you, seas that ships sailed

فَإِذَا أَتَيْتَ الدَّارَ وَهْيَ أَمينَةٌ

لَمْ تَدْفَعِ المَحْذُورَ عَنْكَ الدَّارُ

When you come home safe and sound

The house does not ward off feared misfortunes

أُحْجِيَّةٌ لِلْخَلْقِ لَمْ تُدْرَكْ وَمَا

فَتِئَتْ تُحَاجِيهِمْ بِهَا الأَدْهَارُ

A puzzle for mankind never comprehended

As time argues with them over it

مهْمَا يَكُنْ مِنْهَا فإِنَّكَ لمْ تَخَلْ

أَنَّ الصُّرُوفَ يَرُدُّهُنَّ حِذارُ

But whatever it may be, fate’s caprice

Cannot turn you back in caution

وَحَيِيتَ تَعْبَثُ فِي مُدَاعَبَةِ الرَّدَى

وتَبَشُّ إِذْ تَتَجَهَّمُ الأَخْطَارُ

You lived frivolously tempting fate

And rejoiced as perils loomed

وتَكادُ عِزّاً لاَ تَرَى فَوْقَ الثَّرَى

حَظّاً عَلَى مَا نِلْتَهُ يُخْتَارُ

In your glory you almost disdained

Any worldly station as insufficient

أَلتَّاجُ بَعْدَ أَبِيكَ قَدْ آثَرْتَهُ

بِالطَّوْعِ مِنْكَ لِمَنْ لَهُ الإِيثَارُ

The crown after your father you willingly

Chose for the one most deserving

هُوَ تَاجُ مِصْرَ وَمُلْكَ فِرْعَونَ الَّذِي

بِالْيُمْنِ تَجْرِي تَحْتَهُ الأَنْهَارُ

It is Egypt's crown and the kingdom of its Pharaoh

Under which rivers flow in prosperity

يَأْبَى التَّشبُّه بِالدَّرَارِيءِ دُرُّهُ

وَكَأَنَّ نُورَ الشَّمْسِ فِيهِ نُضَارُ

Its unmatched brilliance refuses comparison

As if the radiance of the sun inhabits it

إِنْ تَمْضِ فِي الْعَلْيَاءِ نَفْسٌ حُرَّةٌ

فَهُنَاكَ لا حَدٌّ وَلا مِقْدَارُ

If a noble soul aspires for greatness

Then no limit or measure impedes it

أَشْهَدْتَ هَذَا الْعَصْرَ مِنْ تَصْعِيدِهَا

فِي المَجْدِ مَا لَمْ تَشْهَدِ الأَعْصَارُ

You witnessed in this era its ascension

To glories beyond all eras

لا بِدْعَ أَنْ تُلْفَى بِجَأْشٍ رَابِطٍ

وَالسَّاقُ تُبْتَرُ وَالأَسَاةُ تَحَارُ

Without doubt it must be bound by firm covenant

As feet stumble and staffs confuse

أَللَّيْثُ يَزْأَرُ إِنْ أَلَمَّ بِهِ الأَذَى

وَسَكَنْتَ لا بَثٌّ وَلا تَزْآرُ

Does not the lion roar when hurt by harm?

Yet you are calm, stirring not, or snarling

لوْ فِي سِوَاكَ شَهِدْتَ مَا كَابَدْتَهُ

لَمْ يَعْصِ جَفْنَكَ دمْعُهُ المِدْرَارُ

Had it been another, what you endured

Would not have stopped tears flooding

لَكِنْ صَبَرْتَ لِحُكْمِ رَبِّكَ مُسْلِماً

وَعرَفْتَ أَنَّ الْفَائِزَ الصَّبَّارُ

But you remained, submitting to your Lord's decree

Recognizing the victor is the patient one

مَوْلايَ بُرْؤُكَ كَان يُمْناً شَامِلاً

قُضِيَتْ لأَوْطانٍ بِهِ أَوْطارُ

My Master, your recovery brought ample favor

Lands gained through it many boons

فَإِذَا أَصَابَتْ مِصْرُ حَظاً وَافِراً

مِنْهُ أَصَابَتْ مِثْلَهُ أَمْصَار

So if good fortune embraces Egypt

The like of it embraces all lands

فَاهْنأْ بمُؤْتَنَفِ السَّلامَةِ لا تَلا

إِقْبَالَ دَهْرِكَ بَعْدَهَا إِدْبَارُ

Enjoy the renewal of wellbeing, let not

The passage of your time after it be in vain
