O eyes that quench souls with nectar

And join a drunk who refuses to awaken

    Intoxicate me always and exhaust

My passions with tears and fiery resolve

That is life's wine, he who has not tasted it

    Once, is unfit for life

It is life's beauty, in joy and sorrow

And in drinking it, rapture and confusion

You are the one who my heart drank from it

    Passion and torment and trembling

Oppress me as much as your oppression wills

And command beauty to be gentle

Torment me for I have wronged

Myself and truly deserved the punishment

So for this punishment I renewed my love

    And broke a solemn vow

Many a night that bewilders the stars

In which the lost cannot find a path

It gathered me burdened with worries like a sea

That gathered the distant drowned in its depths

I think the Pleiades are wounds in its chest

And I see meteors as burns in its sky

In it, happiness slept a blissful sleep

While I sighed longing and sleepless

Wherever its darkness covered me at sunset

The eye of dawn saw me shining

    I met it while thick

Then bid it farewell while delicate

    It softened, dissolved and vanished

Leaving me no trace but a slight illusion

It remained slim and lean by my side

Like the red anemone grazing a twin

O you sleeping whom slumber makes happy

    While my wakefulness still persists

If the sleepless were many like me

Happiness would be supreme and elegant

Her face's beauty evaded me openly

Not to be boasted of, and figure so graceful

Her mind which conceives the thoughts escaped me

A spirit, a body, and veins

    Her rhymed prose escaped me

Does not string pearls on her neck harmoniously

Her gentleness which enlivens passion escaped me

And if it wished could revive concord

And establish hopes in the soul like light

That transforms seeds into delicate flowers

Charms that shackled my heart with them

And showed me, whenever I complained, disobedience

Every captive wishes to break free

And my misfortune to become untied
