رَوَّعَكَ الشِّعرُ بِأَوْهَامِهِ
وَالأَمْنُ كُلُّ الأَمْنِ مَا رَوَّعَكْ
Poetry deluded you with its fantasies
While security is all the security that deluded you
يَا نَاظِمَ الدَّمْعِ بُكَاءً عَلَى
شَبَابِهِ أَنِّي أَبْكِي مَعَكْ
O composer of tears, crying
Over his youth, I cry with you
لَكِنَّني أَرْجُو وَتَخْشَى فَمَا
أَخْوَفَنِي حُبّاً وَمَا أَشْجَعَكْ
But I hope and I fear, so nothing
Frightened me in love, nor emboldened you
لاَ حَرِمَ النَّاسُ البَيَانَ الَّذِي
أَمْتَعَنَا مِنْكَ وَأَنْ صَدَّعَكْ
People didn't deprive of the eloquence
That delighted us about you, even if it split you
