O you whom great emperors address
And praise, O noble one
After you, I dare not
Speak to you, O eminent one
But I recalled, and memory is a blessing,
For an aspiring heart
Indeed, it is the dew by which
I have attained this high position
I have always been at the frontier
With a serene soul and a smile
Seeking cure, abstaining
From what harms in speech
In the hermits’ huts, though
Without prayer or fasting
I find the pages a solace
For me while sitting or standing
From them I learned of what
Your great efforts have achieved
So I wrote to praise them to you
With chivalry and peace
