1. فِي رِضَى المَرْبُوبِ وَالرَّبِّ

    بِتْ قَرِيراً يَا أبَا الطَّبِّ

    In contentment of the Lord and Master

    Stay happy, O father of medicine

  2. يَا رَئِيسَ القَصْرِ مِنْ قِدَمٍ

    وَأُسَاةِ العَصْرِ فِي العَقْبِ

    O leader of the palace from old

    And pillar of the age in succession

  3. جَلَّ رُزْءُ القِطْرِ أَجْمَعِهِ

    فِيكَ مِنْ عَلاَّمَةٍ قُطْبِ

    All the land's prosperity focused

    In you as a great symbol

  4. مِنْ سَدِيدِ الرَّأْيِ مُبْرَمِهِ

    مُحْكَمِ الإِيجَابِ وَالسَّلْبِ

    With resolute, definitive opinion

    Decisive in affirmation and negation

  5. مَنْ صَحِيحِ المجدِ صَادِقِهِ

    حِينَ يُشْرَى المَجْدُ بِالكذْبِ

    Of true glory, its sincerity

    When glory is bought with lies

  6. مِنْ بَعِيْدِ الهَمِّ مُشْتَغِلٍ

    في انْصِدَاعِ الشَّمْلِ بِالرَّأْبِ

    Far from worries, busy

    In mending the rift with connection

  7. لَيْسَ بِالْوَقَّافِ مُخْتَبِلاً

    بَيْنَ دَفْتِ الفِكْرِ وَالجَذْبِ

    Neither hesitant nor confused

    Between the pull of thought and determination

  8. ذَبَّ عَنْ حَقِّ البِلاَدِ بِمَا

    في حُدُودِ العِلْمِ مِنْ ذَبِّ

    He protected the rights of the country with

    What knowledge contains of resolution

  9. إذْ رَآهَا وَالشُّعُوبُ شَأَتْ

    لَمْ تَزَلْ فِي أَوَّلِ الدَّرْب

    When he saw it and the people declined

    They did not stop at the start of the path

  10. ورِضَاهَا السِّلْمُ اَشْبَهُ مَا

    كَانَ فِي عُقْبَاهُ بِالحَرْبِ

    And their contentment is peace, most similar

    To what was in its heels with war

  11. فَبِجِدٍّ هَبَّ يَرْجِعُ مِنْ

    شَأْنِهَا مَا ضَاعَ بِاللَّعْبِ

    So seriously he strove to return

    What was lost of its affairs in play

  12. وبِمَا أبْلَى لِنُصْرَتِها

    عُدَّ فِي أَبْطَالِهَا الغُلْبِ

    And with what he spent in its victory

    He counts among its brave heroes

  13. فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ مُرْتَحِلٌ

    شَقَّ عَنْهُ مُظْلِمَ الحُجْبِ

    Traveling in God's cause

    The intense veils parted for him

  14. عُمْرُهُ وَالمَالُ قَدْ بُذِلاَ

    قُرْبَةً فِ خِدْمَةِ الشَّعْبِ

    His life and money were sacrificed

    In devotion serving the people

  15. إِنَّ مِصْراً إذْ نَعَوْهُ لَهَا

    وَجَمَتْ مِنْ شِدَّةِ الخَطْبِ

    Egypt, when it lost him

    Was intense in its anguish

  16. وَأَجَلَّ ألْفَاقِدُوهُ بِهَا

    قَدْرَهُ عَنْ سَاكِبِ الغَرْبِ

    And those who missed him made clear

    His value over the pouring of sunset

  17. هَلْ دُمُوعُ العَيْنِ مُغْنِيَةٌ

    في العُلَى مِنْ هَابِطِ الشُّهْبِ

    Can the tears of the eye avail

    In the Highest, for the falling stars?

  18. حَقُّهُ الذِّكْرَى تُخَلِّدُهُ

    بِجَمِيلِ القَوْلِ لاَ النَّحْبِ

    His right is remembrance that immortalizes him

    With good words, not crying

  19. وَمَعَانٍ يَسْتَدِيمُ بِهَا

    وَجْهُ حَيٍّ مُنْقَضِي النَّحْبِ

    And meanings that can keep

    The face of the living when crying ceases

  20. مِنْ عَلٍ أشْرِفْ وَبَشَّ إلى

    هَؤُلاَءِ الآلَ وَالصَّحْبِ

    From the highest, noble origin, he smiled

    Upon this family and friends

  21. هَلْ بِلاَ وُلْدٍ يَعِزُّ بِهِمْ

    مَنْ لَهُ وُلْدٌ بِلاَ حَسْبِ

    Is one without children made wealthy

    By them, who has children without merit?

  22. مَنْ يُرَبِّي كَالأَفَاضِلِ مِنْ

    هَؤُلاَءِ الصَّفْوَةِ النُّجْبِ

    Who raises the exceptional from

    These elite choice ones?

  23. تَتَبَنَّاهُمْ لَهُ نِعَمٌ

    وَاصِلاَتُ الحُقْبِ بِالْحُقْبِ

    He adopted them, so he has blessings

    And successive epochs, epoch by epoch

  24. قَطَرَاتٌ مِنْ نَدَى هِمَهمٍ

    مُثْمِرَاتٌ كَنَدَى السُّحْبِ

    Drops of dew from his concerns

    Fruitful like the dew of rainclouds

  25. أرَأيْتَ البِرَّ يَجْمَعُهُمْ

    هَهُنَا جَنْباً إلى جَنْبِ

    Have you seen righteousness gathering them

    Side by side here together?

  26. كَانَ عِيسَى فِي مَوَدَّتِهِ

    وَاحِداً في البُعْدِ والْقُرْبِ

    Jesus in his affection was

    One in distance and nearness

  27. عَزْمُهُ مِنْ عُنْصُرٍ مَرِنٍ

    خُلْقُهُ مِنْ جَوْهَرٍ صُلْبِ

    His resolve of flexible character

    His nature of solid essence

  28. قَوْلُهُ فِي نَفْسِ سَامِعِهِ

    طَيِّبٌ كَالمَورِدِ العَذْبِ

    His words in the soul of the listener

    Are good like the fresh sweet drink

  29. رَأْيُهُ فِي كُلِّ مُعْضِلَةٍ

    قَاطِعٌ كَالصَّارِمِ العَضْبِ

    His opinion in every dilemma

    Incisive like the sharp sword

  30. جُودُهُ شَافٍ أَعَادَ بِهِ

    مَجْدَ مِصْرٍ عَاليَ الكَعْبِ

    His generosity healing, he restored

    The glory of lofty Egypt

  31. جَاءَ فِيهِ بِدْعَةً غَصَبَتْ

    كُلَّ حَمْدٍ أَيَّمَا غَصْبِ

    He came with an innovation that usurped

    Every praise, whatever the usurpation

  32. والمَعَانِي قَدْ تَكُونُ لَها

    كَالْغَوَانِي رَوْعَةٌ تَسْبِي

    And meanings can have

    Like melodies, an awe that captivates

  33. لَمْ يَكُنْ فِي الشَّرْقِ وَاحَرَبَا

    كَرَمٌ مِنْ ذَلِكَ الضَّرْبِ

    There was no one in the East like him

    Of that class and upbringing

  34. فَبِحَمْدِي الْيَوْمَ صَارَ لَنَا

    مَوْقِفٌ فِي جَانِبِ الغَرْبِ

    So by my praise today we have

    A stance on the Western side

  35. حَبَّذَا أنْبَاءُ مِنْحَتِهِ

    قُلْ وَكَرِّرْ أَيُّهَا المُنْبِي

    How excellent the news of his gift

    Say and repeat, O you who declare

  36. عَلَّ فِي مُثْرِي مَوَاطِنِنَا

    مَنْ ضِخَامِ الرَّيْعِ وَالْكَسْبِ

    May one increase our fertile regions

    Of abundant yields and livelihoods

  37. مَنْ إذَا دَاعِي الوَلاَءِ دَعَا

    قَالَ إحْسَاسٌ لَهُ لَبِّ

    One whom when the voice of loyalty calls

    Says, "I feel a responsiveness"

  38. هَلْ يُفِيدُ الخِصْبُ فِي بَلَدٍ

    وَقُلُوبُ القَوْمِ فِي جَدْبِ

    Can abundance benefit a land

    When people's hearts are arid?

  39. أَلثَّرَاءُ المُسْتَعَزُّ بِهِ

    كَنْزُهُ فِي العَقْلِ لاَ التُّرْبِ

    Are the wealthy made proud by it

    When their treasure's in the mind, not soil?

  40. مِصْرُ يَا أُسْتَاذُ تَذْكُرُ مَا

    جِئْتَ بِالإِعْجَابِ وَالْعُجْبِ

    Egypt, O professor, remembers what

    You brought of wonder and awe

  41. كُلَّمَا مَرَّ الزَّمَانُ بِهِ

    فَهْوَ فِي إجْلاَلِها مُربِي

    Whenever time passed with it

    It was in venerating you a nurturer

  42. كَانَ عِيسَى صَبَّ حِرْفَتِهِ

    يَفْتَدِيهَا فِدْيَةَ الصَّبِّ

    Jesus poured his craft

    To ransom it the price of melting

  43. وَُرَجِّي أنْ يُعِيدَ لَهَا

    شَأْنَهَا فِي دَوْلَةِ العُرْبِ

    And I hope he will restore for it

    Its status in the state of Arabs

  44. فَانْبَرَى لِلْكُتْبِ يُخْرِجُهَا

    آيَ تَعْلِيمٍ بِلاَ كُتْبِ

    So he embarked upon books, producing from them

    Verses of education without books

  45. وَأَفَادَ النَّاسَ غَايَةَ مَا

    فِي اقْتِدَارِ النَّاصِحِ الطَّبِّ

    And benefited people to the extent

    Of what an able adviser can do

  46. فَهُوَ الآسِي لِذِي سَقَمٍ

    وَالمُوَاسِي لِأَخِي الكَرْبِ

    He is the comforting for the ill

    And the consoling for a brother in distress

  47. تَحْتَ آدَابِ الحَكِيمِ طَوَى

    مَكْرُمَاتِ السَّيِّدِ النَّدْبِ

    Under the manners of the wise he folded

    The generous qualities of the noble man

  48. كَانَ فِي كُلِّ الشُّؤُونِ يَرَى

    كَيْفَ يَرْقَى الْأَوَْ ذُو الدَّأْبِ

    He saw in all affairs how

    The first may rise, he of effort

  49. فَازَ قِدْماً مَنْ لَهُ نَظَرٌ

    قَبْلَ بَدْءِ الأَمْرِ فِي الغِبِّ

    He succeeded early, one whose sight

    Precedes action in the unseen

  50. فَإذَا ما سَارَ سِيرَتَهُ

    لَمْ يَجِدْ صَعْباً مِنَ الصّعْبِ

    So when his conduct progressed

    He found no hardship in hardship

  51. كَانَ لاَ يُعْطِي الحَيَاةَ سِوَى

    قَدْرِ مَا يُعْطِي أَخُو اللُّبِّ

    He gave life only the measure

    That a bosom friend would give

  52. نِضْوُ خُبْرٍ لَيْسَ يَفْتِنُهُ

    زُخْرُفُ الدُّنْيَا وَلاَ يُصْبِي

    A maturity not tempted

    By the world's glamor, nor foolish

  53. يَجِدُ الحُسْنَى بِلاَ جَذَلٍ

    وَيَرَى السُّوأَى بِلاَ عَتْبِ

    Finding the beautiful without disdain

    And seeing the ugly without blame

  54. فِيهِ حُبُّ النَّاسِ أَخْلَصَهُ

    طَبْعُهُ الصَّافِي مَنَ الخِبِ

    In him the love of people was most sincere

    His pure nature, free of deceit

  55. جَاءَهُمْ مِنْهُ بِأبْدَعَ مَا

    ضُمِّنَتْهُ آيَةُ الحُبِّ

    He gave them the best contained

    In the verse of love

  56. خَيْرُ مَا يَأْتِي الذَكَاءُ بِهِ

    هُوَ مَا يَأْتِي مِنَ الْقَلْبِ

    The best that intelligence can bring

    Is what comes from the heart

  57. ذَاكَ بَعْضُ الحَقِّ فِيهِ وَلَوْ

    طَالَ وَقْتِي لَمْ يَكُنْ حَسْبِي

    That is some of the truth in him, and if

    My time continued, it would not be enough

  58. فَلْتَكُ الجَنَّاتُ مَرْتَعَهُ

    خَالِداً فِيهَا عَلَى الرُّحْبِ

    So let the gardens be his pasture

    Abiding in them, at peace
