The homes of knowledge, no matter how I seek them,
Will always find me ready to support them.
So what of an institute nurtured by my wisdom,
And tended with all my care?
With the wisdom of one who holds Egypt dear,
And builds for its glory hearts true and sincere.
May the Merciful reward Hussein with favor,
The state's wise and eloquent leader.
And for that was Egypt's prayer for him,
For his noble ideals, a reward sublime.
Your deeds, my lad, bear witness,
Though the least of them is a wonder to attest.
Have you not spent in its cause every virtue?
Leave then for others some goodness to inherit.
You, beloved of glory, O you whose every
Praiseworthy act finds a lover,
Your ancestors never ceased in all calamities,
To bridge the gap or bring ease to the deprived.
If you seek a distant goal, you will attain it,
Even if the journey is long and fraught with doubt.
A stranger in this land, seeking the strange,
And reaching it, though the path remains unknown.
But for you, every sought aim would fail,
And every hope refused to avail.
May God guard you, O auspicious star,
So your rising persists and does not from sight afar.
When the thirsty seek from you a draught,
That rain will soon pour down in abundance brought.
No home of knowledge but you have blessed
With pouring clouds and rain without arrest.
No home of righteous deed but found you
Quick to respond when good was due.
No home of the ill but you were there
To tend and heal their every care.
O you who returns with fortune's grace,
Hoping for bounty and goodness in your place,
We praise your return after absence, so rejoice,
And rest your heart, made spacious and voice.
