قضى الَّذِي كَانَ نَادِيهِ وَمَحْضَرُهُ

قِلادَةٌ لِكِرَامِ النَّاسِ تَنْتَظِمُ

He whose company was sought, and his assembly frequented

Was a pearl necklace for the necks of the noble to be threaded

إِذَا تَكَلَّمَ أَصْغَتْ كُلُّ جَارِحَةٍ

إِلَيْهِ لا الكَدُّ يَثْنِيهَا وَلا السَّأَمُ

When he spoke every limb listened attentively

Neither boredom made it turn away nor exhaustion made it stop

دُرٌّ يُسَلْسِلُهُ فِيمَا يَفُوهُ بِهِ

فَالْقَلْبُ مُبْتَهِجٌ وَالْعَقْلُ مُغْتَنِمُ

His words were pearls which he strung together

So the heart rejoiced and the mind gained

كَأَنَّ جُلاَّسَهُ مَهْمَا عَلَوْا رُتَباً

رَاجُوا صِلاتٍ عَلَيْهِمْ تُنْشَرُ النعَمُ

It was as though his companions, no matter how high their ranks,

Yearned for prayers to be said for them, spreading blessings
