    O leaders, rest in peace,

And may mercy and peace be upon your soil.

No wonder tears flowed after you

In the two easts, and flags were lowered.

    Egypt, for which you died,

Became as if joy in it is forbidden.

Scarcely a year passed without a martyr.

The martyrs - the last was not less than the first,

And for all a position amongst the eternal.

O God! Egypt is distraught and its heart

    Recites the arrows of separation.

    Perhaps for Abdel Aziz death

Would have been easier than the difficulties you endured.

You were resolute, not caring for perdition,

    Determined, neither weak nor resigned.

Is lawful, and the evil of both is hesitation.

Which neither distracts you nor are you distracted from it by rubble.

Righteousness being its opening and end.

Out of love for Egypt and desire for its advancement.

That love for Egypt - none ever blamed you for it,

Nor did anyone reach the extent of your love.

How many valleys did the pilgrim descend in them

Ill and was cured by Allah’s care for the hopeless.

You are called and you become active as if

The ailment gives you the power of endurance.

In the like of this while souls are great,

    O emigrant of pens, almost

The crescent grieved for its glorious pillar

With a heart receiving inspiration from his Lord

Time is spacious with its ease so for our time

You spend all that you are endowed with

    Who can provide the equality

By your care, bereft women regained their strength

You joined estranged kinship ties, never

Disregarding a bond that kinsmen abandoned.

Take the gems and cast off their husks,

Was there a more virtuous young man than you

    A free man, determined, resolute?

If those traits and character are magnified

After what hardship is one to give good tidings

That its fruits have been heralded by the buds?

Egypt will return to the days of its glory

You established opinion, fulfilled in success

The intensity you faced defending the sanctuary

When you find deficiency in one's determination

Then perfection cannot be hoped for there.

Why one who takes life as a means

And above life are his aspirations?

Eras pass and Egypt never forgets you

And its loyalty is a pact and guarantee.

Alas! It consoles the memory of its Abdel Aziz

    Or the pyramids change.

Egypt which they thought quiet like a sanctuary

But is there stillness with the glowing embers?

Not every late riser is awake nor

    Are the early sleepers slumbering.

    Concerns can preoccupy a people

For a year, while its conscience is ever awake.

Egypt’s youth, its strength and support are its youth,

They are the shield, might, and determination.

Live! And may Egypt thrive through you,

Achieving in glory what peoples have not achieved.

And a ransom for it is the hero who for its sake

You honored - and his right is to be honored.

And to you O Abdel Aziz a farewell

From one bidding farewell while tears are stifling.

The days I will not forget, and situations where you

Were in those days a sun and we planets revolving.

You stripped yourself for virtues and loftiness

Until you met death while it was inevitable.

You refused blame in life or in death

Even from those who blamed you.

You remained in the shadows of eternity - may

Your smiling face rise for us amongst the constants.
