سأرجو ولو أن الرجاءَ عقيم

وأحيا ولو أن الحياة جحيم

I shall hope though hope is futile,

And live though life is hell,

وأترك قلبي سادراً دون حبّه

يجاذب إلفاً في حشاه يُقيم

And leave my heart flowing freely without its love,

Clinging to intimacy dwelling inside it.

فإن كان جسمي مسقماً ومعذباً

فإن فؤادي رغم ذاك سليم

If my body is ill and tortured,

My heart is still sound despite that.

طروب يناجيه الصبا ويهزّه

إلى الحسن شوق في هواك عظيم

Passion that greatly adores you,

Makes the youth converse with and shake it.

تعلّم من عينيك حبًّا فزاده

غراماً وأضحى بالعيون يهيم

Learn love from your eyes which increased

Its passion and became obsessed with eyes.

يناجيك بالبيت الذي قد أجاده

خبير بأسرار الوداد عليمُ

It converses with you using the verse it excelled at,

An expert in the secrets of affection and wise.

ستفنى الضلوع الطاويات على الأسى

وحبك في تلك الضلوع مقيم

The ribs arching over sorrow will perish,

And your love in those ribs remains.
