This spring has come to us with the light of beauty

And adorned the earth with flowers of all hues

From bright white amidst joyful green

With red roses watering the ground

So the rose in its color is the cheek of the beloved when

    Plucked, it blushes shyly

And poppies are like the mouth of a gazelle

    Smiling openly with intimacy

And the narcissus bends as the eye that looked

At a lover pleading for kindness

And jasmine appeared in its buds

As if it were a neck caressed lovingly

O beauty's idol, this day smiles

While you are the best thing we have known

Does this meadow please you, O my hope?

Her smile drew near like a pearl and coral

In a garden of flowering meadows

Crowned with branches over the flowers

His oud in hand beseeching your attention

She said "Sing us something!" And he said

"O glance that sparked fires in my heart!"

She laughed and then said "That is lovely

But I want something other than this, so sing us something"

"Those eyes that have houris in their corners

Killed us, then did not bring us back to life

They fell the lips until no movement stirs

Yet they are the weakest of God's creation, human"

Then the oud's melody turned to sorrowful song

Stirring the ears with melodies and tunes

Until leaning from the song's remains, intoxicated

With roses and basil she had picked

And she stopped him for a moment when she turned

Revealing to us the hues of magic beauty

She handed him the oud and kisses followed

Until she awoke crying "What was that!"

And the melody roused her passions so she began

To embrace the oud bitterly and sweetly

Then awoke singing, happy with him

As the oud ignited fires in her palms

Be however you wish, for I have no substitute for you

You are the pure water for a thirsty heart

And she hurried in the steps of the wood dove

As the oud sang to her gently and kindly

Until the trees swayed with enchantment

And became like the swaying branches of a lover

The breeze blew gently on the gown of night

And the day turned away, serene and bright

And night approached, with its stars goading it

As if they were horsemen amidst a herd

Renewing the intimacy as she sang in rapture

"O night that looked down on those awake!"

"O beauty who takes away all sorrows and troubles

Until you see the longing lover humbled"

"You made my heart happy and did not attain what you wished

Alas, after you the heart finds no solace"

"One who seeks intimacy from the proud finds no joy

    Like me, with time unyielding"

Then the oud's melody turned to sorrowful song

Stirring the ears with melodies and tunes

Until leaning from the song's remains, intoxicated
