1. هلمّ أصلحْ، رعاك اللهُ، ما فَسدا

    ما أنت أفسدت من أمر بدا فعدا

    Come, let's make amends - may God watch over you - for what's gone wrong

    You did not ruin what had already begun to spoil

  2. الْغادةُ استوحشت من بعد أُلْفَتِها

    وأَدبرت بعد إِقبالٍ لها صددا

    My dear grew lonely after her familiarity

    And turned away after once drawing near

  3. أريتها " الألفَ " فاستضْرَتْ شهيتُها

    تخالُها، ألفَ ألفٍ، ضوعفت عددا

    I showed her “experience” but she lost her appetite

    Imagining thousands upon thousands her worth doubled

  4. وأنّ لي كنزَ قارونٍ وأنّ لها

    من إرثِهِ ما يُصيب الأهلَ والولدا

    That I have Qarun's treasure and she has

    An inheritance that benefits kin and child

  5. من بعد ما كانتِ العشرونَ تبهَرُها

    تكاد تخطَفُ منها الروح والجسدا

    After she once marveled at a score

    She now seems to lose spirit and body

  6. أَفسدْتَ " مَيكي " ومَيكي وردةٌ قُطِفَتْ

    من جنة الخُلْدِ إذ رضوانُها هجدا

    You have ruined “Mickey”, and Mickey is a rose plucked

    From the eternal garden when she happily frolicked

  7. كأنّ عُرْيَتَها في جُنْحِ داجيةٍ

    عُرْيُ الصباح على خُضْرِ الحقول بدا

    As if her nakedness were in the wings of a kite

    The naked dawn on the green fields appeared

  8. كأنَّ رَوْحَ نسيمٍ في تنفّسها

    يَهُبُّ من ليلِ داريّا على بردى

    As if the soul of a breeze in her breaths

    Blows from a night in Dariya on silken clothes

  9. هلُمَّ أَصْلِحْ رعاكَ اللهُ ما فسدا

    وخلِّها تنجزِ الوعدَ الذي وُعدا

    Come let's make amends - may God watch over you - for what's gone wrong

    And free her to fulfill the promise made

  10. لَفِّقْ لها من كذوبِ القولِ أعذبَه

    تَجِدْ له في قلوب الغانياتِ صدى

    Spin for her the sweetest lies of speech

    You’ll find in the hearts of singers an echo

  11. أَقْسِمْ لها إنها عَشْرٌ أَضفتَ لها

    صِفْرينِ تبغى بذاك المزحَ والفَنَدا

    Swear to her that she is a ten to which you have added

    Two zeros, desiring by that jest and coquetry

  12. أو أنها وَرَقٌ لَوَّنْتَهُ فغدا

    كأنّه الوَرِقُ النَّقْدُ الذي انتُقِدا

    Or that she is a leaf you have colored so it became

    Like minted coins of paper currency

  13. أو أنّها راودت في يقظةٍ حُلُماً

    حتى إذا مسَّحت أجفانَها طُرِدا

    Or that she dreamed awake of a dream

    Until, wiping her eyelids, was dismissed

  14. أقسم لها أنه لو كان يملكها

    لمات من فَرَح أو جُنَّ فارتعدا

    Swear to her that if you owned her

    You'd die of joy or be possessed and tremble

  15. لا يعرف " الأَلْفَ " إلا في مصائبه ..

    أو الخصوم .. أو المرّ الذي حصدا

    "Experience" knows only troubles..

    Or quarrel.. Or bitterness that it reaped

  16. لكنه يملك الدنيا بعاطفة

    جيّاشةٍ وفؤاد يُلْهِبُ الجَمَدا

    But it owns the world with fiery

    Passion and a heart that ignites the numb

  17. وإن حظَّكِ من هذا وذا نَصَفٌ

    في بعضه ما يُثيرُ الحِقْدَ والحسدا

    And your share of this and that is half

    In some of which breeds hatred and envy

  18. ظلِّي سلمتِ له ظلاً يلوذُ به

    ينسى بيومِكِ أمساً غابراً وغدا

    Give him shade he can take refuge in

    And forget in your day a vanished past and tomorrow

  19. وأَسلميه كنوزاً منكِ عامرةً

    فإن في الحب كنزاً عامراً أبدا

    And give him treasures plentiful in you

    For in love lies an ever plentiful treasure

  20. ولا تخالي فروقَ العُمْرِ حائلةً

    فكم شأى في " الفتون " الوالدُ الولدا

    And do not consider the difference of years an obstacle

    For how often the father suited "the coquetry" of the son

  21. سبعٌ وعشرٌ وسبعونٌ إذا اجتمعا

    كنَّ: الصِّبا والنُّهى واللُّطْفَ والرَّشدا

    Seventy-three when joined

    Are: youth, restraint, charm and wisdom

  22. إن تَسْلَما يَنْمُ غرسُ الفنِّ بينكما

    ومن يمت منكما يوماً فقد خَلَدا

    If you submit, the sapling of art will sleep between you

    And whoever dies one day has gained eternity

  23. قطّر لها ما يُذيبُ النحلُ من شَهَدٍ

    فإن في الحرف زهراً يجمع الشَهَدا

    Drip for her what bees gather of nectar

    For in words lies a flower that gathers nectar

  24. أولا فحتفُكَ في كفي وطوعُ فمي

    فإن في الحرف سماً يقتُلُ الأَسَدا

    Or else your death by my hands and your will in my mouth

    For in words lies a poison that kills lions
