1. يا أمتي يا عصبة الأمم

    لا تغضبي يا ثلج مِنْ ضَرَمي

    O my nation, o confederation of nations

    Do not be angry, o snow, from my fever

  2. لا تغضبي ويدي معطَّلَةٌ

    أَنْ أقذِفَ اللعناتِ ملءَ فمي

    Do not be angry, and my hand is disabled

    That I hurl curses filling my mouth

  3. وعلامَ تُغضِبُ حكمةٌ تَعِساً

    خَزيانَ محكوماً من القِدَمِ ؟

    And why does wisdom anger misery

    A shameful decreed from ancient times?

  4. بل ما يضيرُ القدحُ في حجر ؟

    بل ما يثير الشحمُ في الوَرَمِ ؟

    But how does criticism harm a rock?

    But how does fat stir a wound?

  5. يا سوء حظِّ دُميً مرقَّصةٍ

    يُلهى بها وتُداسُ بالقَدَمِ

    O misfortune of my bloodied fate

    Played with and trampled underfoot

  6. إني لاسألُ " قادةً " أُذُناً

    يتخارسون بحجَّةِ الصَّمَمِ

    I do not ask leaders for an ear

    Who whisper under the pretext of deafness

  7. فيمَ الحياة تُرى إذا عَرِيَتْ

    من أخذ ثَأرِ عن دمٍ بِدَمِ ؟

    What is life if it is stripped

    Of taking revenge for blood with blood?

  8. وإذا النفوس هوت إلى الرمم ؟

    وإذا الأُنوفُ خَلَتْ من الشَممِ

    And when souls incline to cobbling?

    And when noses lack smelling?

  9. لمَ الرجالُ وفي الحريم غنى

    فيما استُبيح لهم من الحُرُمِ ؟

    Why are men complacent while in sanctity

    When what is sacrosanct is violated?

  10. ما أقبح الأصنامَ ليس لها

    دَعَةُ الرضى والصمتِ في الصَّنمِ

    How ugly are idols with no

    Flexibility of consent and silence like an idol

  11. يتفرَّجون على مقابحهم !

    إذ يدَّعون محاسن الشِّيمِ

    They watch their disgraces!

    When they claim good morals

  12. في " ليبيا " حِمَمٌ وعندهمُ

    ما شاءت الشهواتُ من حِممِ

    In Libya there are zealots who have

    Whatever desires they want from zealotry

  13. أفيذبحُ الطفلُ الرضيعُ بها

    وهمُ لمن ذبحوه كالخدمِ !

    So a suckling child is slaughtered there

    And they are like servants to his butcher!

  14. اللَّهمَّ عفوكَ إنني بَرِمٌ

    ولقد يُدَسُّ الظلمُ في البَرَمِ

    O Allah, your pardon, I am sick

    And oppression is often crammed into the sick

  15. فلئِن تعابَثَتِ الجيوشُ بهم

    فلديهمُ جيشٌ من الكَلَمِ

    So if armies frolic with them

    They have an army of words
