    You came, “Paris”, mother of struggle

    And mother of beauty, and mother of melody

  2. تَذوَّبَ فوقَ الشِفاهِ الألَم

    وسال الفؤادُ .. على كلِّ فم

    Pain melted above the lips

    And the heart flowed, on every mouth

  3. تَضيعُ الحرارةُ بينَ الوصالْ

    وبين التّنائي وبين الملال

    Warmth is lost between union

    And separation and boredom

  4. كأنّكِ شمسُك بينَ الجبال

    تغازلُ حين .. تلوحُ القِمَمْ

    As if your sun between the mountains

    Flirts when the peaks wave

  5. وتبدو الغيومُ لها .. من أمَم

    فَتخفى كما يتخفّى النَّدَم

    And the clouds appear to it, from wishes

    So it hides as regret hides

  6. تعاليتِ " باريسُ " .. كم تلعبينْ

    وكمْ تُلهِمينَ .. وتَستلهِمين

    You came, “Paris”, how much you play

    And how much you inspire, and get inspired

  7. وكمْ تُؤثرين .. وتستأثرين

    تعاليتِ " باريسُ " .. كم تشتهين

    And how much you prefer, and get preferred

    You came, “Paris”, how much you desire

  8. تَصيحُ من الجوعِ منكِ العُيونْ

    وتُطوَى على الحبِّ خُمصُ البُطون

    Eyes scream from hunger for you

    And bellies are folded for love

  9. وتَنسَيْنَ ما كان أو ما يكون

    بما أنت في لُجِّهِ من فُتون

    And you forget what was or what will be

    With what you are immersed in from temptations

  10. تعاليتِ " باريسُ " إنّ الجنون

    جُنونَ العواطفِ ما تَصْنَعين

    You came, “Paris”, for passion’s madness is what you create

    You came, “Paris”, for the years

  11. تعاليت ِ " باريسُ " .. إن السنينْ

    بما تَعْلَمينَ .. وما تَجْهَلين

    With what you know, and what you ignore

    And what you enjoy when you dream

  12. وما تستلذّينَ إذ تحلُمين

    بوَقْع الشَّكاةِ .. ورَجعِ الأنين

    Of the clatter of heels, and the moan’s return

    And scattering flowers on the conquerors

  13. ونثرِ الزُّهورِ على الفاتحين

    وثلِّ العُروشِ .. وضَرْبِ الوتين

    And the thrones’ decline, and beating the lutes

    And what “Rousseau” and “Lamartine” composed

  14. وما سنَّ " روسو " .. و " لامارتَين "

    أناختْ طويلاً على عاتقَيْكِ

    And rested long on your shoulders

    And cast a shine in your sights

  15. وألقتْ بريقاً على ناظريك

    وهَدْهَدَتِ الموجَ من ناهديك

    And cradled the wave from your breasts

    You came, “Paris”, in your cheeks

  16. تعاليتِ " باريسُ " .. في وجنتيك

    يلوحُ جميلاً .. دمُ الثائرين

    The blood of rebels shines beautifully

    From you, “Paris”, epochs passed

  17. جلَتْ منك " باريسُ " كفُّ الدهورْ

    فُتوناً مُضَمَّخَةً بالعُطور

    Temptations smeared with perfume

    And a world boiling with fire and light

  18. ودنيا تَفور .. بنارٍ ونور

    بما يُتَّقى ويُرَجَّى تَمور

    With fear and hope it yields fruit

    A bitter struggle at the borders

  19. صراعٌ مريرٌ فُوَيْقَ الثُّغور

    لنَوحِ الأسى .. وابتهالِ الحُبور

    For the sadness' moan, and the devoted's prayers

    Your wounded, scarred wounds

  20. تَكادُ جِراحاتُكِ المُثخنَه

    تُصفَّق منها .. كؤوسُ المُدامْ

    Can almost be heard clinking the wine cups

    And on the tavern's stone appears

  21. ويبدو على حَجَرِ المدخَنَة

    مواعيدُ حُبٍ .. وشكوى غَرام

    Love dates, and the complaint of passion

    Behind the curtains, I imagined your coquetry

  22. تُخال نجاواكِ خلفَ السُّتورْ

    لفرطِ الجوى .. قِصةً في سُطور

    For overflowing fervor, a story in lines

    And what the hearts had stored

  23. ويُوشِكُ ما اخْتَزَنَتْهُ .. الصُّدور

    يرِفُّ على .. " لافتاتِ المرور "

    Nearly spills on the traffic signs

    On the faces, feelings almost

  24. تَكادُ الأحاسيسُ فوقَ الوجوهْ

    تُشيعُ الهوى .. والرُّؤَى .. والمنى

    Spread love, and visions, and wishes

    And nearly speak out

  25. وتُوشك مكبوتةً .. أن تَفوه

    تَحِلُّ الذي يَعقِدُ .. ألألْسُنا

    What knots the tongues

    As if the ghosts of sins wander

  26. كأن طُيوفَ الخطايا .. تتوه

    مُدىً .. ثم تحتضِنُ الأعينا

    A while, then embrace the eyes

    As if you “Paris” are all the world

  27. كأنكِ " باريسُ " كلُّ الدُّنا

    بكلّ " الغموض" .. بكل السّنا

    With all “mystery”, with all evil

    On each waist two hands met

  28. على كلِّ خَصْرٍ تلاقت يدانْ

    ألانا مُثَقَّفَهُ فاستلان

    One educated so it charmed

    And each mouth's contents are two roses

  29. وكل فمٍ حَشْوُه وردتان

    هما الشفتانِ .. هما الجَمْرتان

    They are the two lips, they are the two embers

    Time shed the youth's blood

  30. أراقَ الزمانُ دماءَ الشباب

    لِيَرْويهِما وهما يَلْهَثان

    To water them while they pant

    A cheek touches a cheek melted

  31. تَمَسّح خدٌّ بخدٍّ يلوبْ

    من الحب في وجنتيهِ نُدوب

    From love, wounds on its cheeks

    And appeared as what appeared on the deserted lands

  32. ولاح كما لاح فوقَ السُّهوب

    رؤَى شفقٍ في الوجوه الشحوب

    Visions of dusk on the pale faces

    As if I saw a heart melting

  33. كأنّي رأيت فؤاداً يذوب

    على مثلِه بدمٍ يَقْطُرُ

    Over its equal with dripping blood

    And waves of emotion abound

  34. وأمواجَ عاطفةٍ تزخر

    بصدرَيْن كالبحرِ مستسلمَيْن

    In two chests like the sea, submissive

    To however the winds want, and where?

  35. لِكَيْفَ تُريدُ رياحٌ ؟ وأيْن ؟

    تعاليتِ " باريسُ " مِنْ فاتنهْ

    You came, “Paris”, an enchantress

    Tormented by pleasure and pain

  36. يُدَغْدِغُ فيها النعيمُ العذابْ

    يُزيح بأجوائِها الداكنه

    Its gloomy atmospheres remove

    The whisper of evil, a shred of cloud

  37. شفيفُ السنا .. مِزقاً من سَحاب

    تعاليتِ " باريسُ " مِنْ ماجنه!!

    You came, “Paris”, from obscenity!!

    And in its vulgarity, nothing is wrong

  38. وما في مُجانتها ما يُعابْ

    سوى أنّها في .. كؤوسِ الشراب

    Except that in the wine cups

    And embers of lips, and chill of slaps

  39. وجمرِ الشفاه .. وبردِ الرُّضاب

    ترى كاذبَ العمرِ مثل الحبَاب

    It sees the age's liar like bubbles

    Deceiving a while, after a while

  40. يخادع آونةً .. آونه

    ويَنْسَلُّ كالعُهْر تحتَ الثياب

    And sneaks like whoredom under clothes

    Until now, “Paris”, in my hearing

  41. إلى الآنَ " باريسُ " .. في مسمعي

    صدى مَرَحِ " العابثاتِ " الحسانْ

    Is the echo of the “playgirls'” laughter

    And the wink of eyes flirting

  42. ولمحُ العُيونِ لها الشرَّعِ

    وزحف الصحافِ .. وعزف " الكمان "

    And the newspapers' crawl, and the “violin's” tune

    And a cafe curled like an owl

  43. ومقهى تكوّرَ كالبُّعْبُع

    تَماوَجُ جُدرانُه .. بالدُّخان

    Its walls wavering with smoke

    And a battlefield, with the vileness of fighting

  44. ومعتركٌ .. ببذيءِ الشجار

    تصارخَ .. ثُمَّ انتهى بالحِوار

    Screaming, then ending with dialogue

    As the fruits fell with pebbles

  45. كما اسّاقطتْ بالحصاةِ الثِمار

    وعاد " الشجار " .. لنجوى سرار

    And the “fight” returned to intimate whispers

    Blood poured hot like the fireplace

  46. وَقَرَّ دمٌّ فار كالموقدِ

    بمسح الشفاه .. وعصرِ اليد

    With lips' touch, and hand's squeeze

    And died whom it was imagined had not been born

  47. ومات الذي خِيلَ .. لم يُولَد

    وغودر " أمسِ " .. لمثوى غد

    And yesterday's corpse for tomorrow's dwelling

    Scents rose from the bed

  48. وفاحت عطورٌ .. من المضجعِ

    تنَزّى لها قفَصُ الأضْلُع

    The cage of ribs prayed to them

    And desire crept on the arms

  49. ودبَّ الضِرامُ .. على الأذْرع

    فراحت تَشابكُ ناراً بنارْ

    So fire met fire

    And the kindling flared, and the train moved

  50. وأزَّ الوقيدُ .. وسار القِطار

    سجا الليلُ " باريسُ " سجوَ الحمام

    The night confined “Paris” like a pigeon

    “The two wings” dangling so it slept

  51. تدلَّى " الجناحان " منهُ فنام

    ولاحت كُوىً .. من خِلالِ الظّلام

    Burns appeared through the darkness

    On which the shadows of passion hover

  52. ترِفُّ عليها .. ظِلالُ الغَرام

    رفيفَ العواطفِ .. في المقلَتَيْن

    The rustle of feelings, in the two eyelids

    And the next day swooped on it horribly

  53. وحام رهيباً عليها الغدُ

    خليقاً بانجازَ .. ما يُوعَد

    Worthy of fulfilling what is promised

    So it extended a hand to every door

  54. فمُدَّت .. إلى كلِّ بابٍ يد

    فَأرْخَتْ ستاراً .. مِنَ الّكرياتْ

    And drew a curtain of shy virgins from light

    And it started gathering the stars, “the constellations”

  55. عذارى من النورِ .. مُسْتَحْيِيات

    وراحت .. حنايا ضُلوعٍ تموجْ

    All its “rising” brings joy

    For love descends or ascends

  56. بما لم تَمُجْ في الربيع المروج

    وضمّت شَتاتَ النجومِ .. " البُروج "

    And cuddles a “sleeping” sleeping

    As if their orbit is a temple

  57. فكلُّ " طَوالِعِها " أسعدُ

    على الحبِّ تَنْزِلُ .. او تَصْعَد

    It whispers to the tomb, the tomb

    Scattered stars with its dreams

  58. ويحنو على " فَرْقدٍ " .. فَرْقَد

    كأنَّ مَدارَهُما مَعْبَد

    Neither “planets” nor “observatory” know of them

    And a glimmer of light appears

  59. يناجي بهِ المرقدَ .. المرقد

    نجومٌ بأحلامها شُرَّد

    And a scent of mature perfume wafts

    And a chest comes to a chest it frequents

  60. فلا " الزاجُ " منها .. ولا المرصد

    وثَمَّ بصيصُ ضياءٍ .. يلوحْ

    And bedsheets whispering like silk

    And two erect breasts on the banks

  61. ونفحةُ عطرٍ ذكىٍّ ..تَفوح

    وصدرٌ يجئُ لصدرٍ يروح

    Stretching to the drowning lover

    Two fine hands with cuffs

  62. وحاشيةٌ من غطاء السريرُ

    واصداءُ نجوى كَسَحْب الحرير

    You came, “Paris”, all the paths

    Overflowing with kisses

  63. ونهدانِ قاما على الشاطئينْ

    يَمُدّانِ نحوَ غريقِ الغرام

    You learned how the flirtation

    Splits life's road when dark

  64. يَدَيْنِ يُليحانِ بالبُرْعُّمَتين

    تعاليتِ " باريسُ " كلُّ الدّروبْ

    From despair and torment, so face them

    And how lips ignite hope

  65. تَفايضُ مُفْعَمَةً بالقُبَلْ

    تعلّمتِ كيفَ يَشُقُّ الغَزَل

    When its stick twists with death

    And the knot of despair unties

  66. طريقَ الحياةِ إذا أظلما

    من اليأس والتاثَ فاستجهما

    You learned, “Paris”: that boredom

    If not cured with wine's bliss

  67. وكيفَ تحُد الشفاه الأملْ

    إذا ما التوى بالمُنَى عُودُهُ

    And the cups' melody, and the strings' song

    And if mouths aren't sweetened with union

  68. وحُلَّ من اليأسِ معقودُهُ

    تعلّمتِ " باريسُ " : أنَّ الضَّجَرْ

    They will return to complain of thirst

    And if a refuge is not found

  69. إذا لم يُدَفْ .. بلذيذِ السَّمَر

    ولحنِ الكؤوسِ .. وسَجْعِ الوَتَر

    A protected refuge in violated sanctuary

    It kills conscience, and wets the blood

  70. وما لم تغَصَّ بحُلوِ اللمى

    شفاهٌ .. تعودُ لتشكو الظّما

    And the crawling of corruption entered the mind

    And it dragged its animosity wherever it went

  71. وما لم يَجِدْ مِعْصَمٌ .. مِعْصَما

    له في حِمىً مستباحٍ .. حِمَى

    You learned, “Paris”, how boredom

    If not dropped with a caressing hand

  72. أمات الضميرَ .. ولاثَ الدما

    ودب دبيبُ الرّدى .. في المُقَلْ

    On its poison, a drop of honey

    To kill it in a mood, killed!

  73. وجرّرَ عداوه .. حيثُ انتَقَل

    تعلمتِ " باريسُ " .. كيف الملَل

    You learned, “Paris”, how duties

    Are performed ... and how debts are repaid

  74. إذا لم تُقَطَّرْ بكفٍ رفل

    على سُمِّه .. قَطْرَةٌ من عسل

    You learned: how with body art

    On swelled arms it is implied

  75. لِتَقْتُلَهُ بمزاجٍ .. قتل !

    تعلّمتِ " باريسُ " .. كيفَ الفروضْ

    And how ... a lock of hair is let down

    If the hair is unkempt so it falls

  76. تؤدَّى ... وكيف تُوَفَّى .. القروض

    تعلّمت : كيف بوشمِ العضوض

    With it from "hours" of solidity instead

    And “feelings” of pretenses spoil

  77. على أذرعٍ بضّةٍ يُستدلْ

    وكيف ... خُصيَلةُ شعرٍ تُسَل

    For too much weakness, or too much stinginess

    And a face ending in most ambiguity

  78. إذا الشَّعُر عِيثَ به فانسَدل

    بها عن " سبائكِ " تبرٍ بَدَل

    For most clarity, for most hesitation

    A duty, and anything else is extra

  79. وأن " حسيساً " كلفٍّ يُفل

    لفرطِ الوَنَى .. أو لِفَرْطِ الجَذَل

    You came “Paris”, the morning

    Dawned so it cast the headscarf on you

  80. ووجدٌ تناهى لأوجِ الغموضْ

    لأوجِ الوضوحِ .. لأوجِ الوَجَل

    And hugged you beneath the blushing wing

    And found you sleeping, so it relaxed

  81. فريضٌ .. ودنيا سواه نفَلْ

    تعاليتِ " باريسُ " إنَّ الصباحْ

    On your fragrant, dreaming chest

    You came “Paris” from a sleeping one

  82. أطلَّ فألقى عليكِ الوِشاح

    وضمَّكِ تحتَ خَضيبِ الجَناح

    The whole world was sleeping

    With its eyelid and its dreaming one

  83. وألفاكِ غافيةً فاستراح

    على صدرِكِ العَطِرِ النّاعِمِ

    You came “Paris”, is there more

    Than what you have, and is there something new

  84. وأنفاسِ بُرْعُمِكِ الحالم

    تعاليتِ " باريسُ " من نائم

    And what have you left this existence

    To return to death, or to eternity

  85. كانَ الدنا كُلَّها نائمةْ

    بمقلتهِ وبهِ حالمه

    And to creatures, alike you repeat

    Examples of your overflowing beauty

  86. تعاليتِ " باريسُ " هلْ مِنْ مَزيدْ

    على ما لَدَيَكِ وهل مِنْ جَديد

    What compensates them the substitute

    What compensates these cheeks

  87. وماذا تركتِ لهذا الوجود

    إلى الموتِ يَرجِعُ أوْ للخُلود

    A garbage dump like rose branches

    And loaded with fruits of sorrows

  88. وللكائناتِ سواء تُعيد

    نماذجَ من حُسْنِكِ المستفيضْ

    With these faces, with these eyes

    With this serenity, with this radiance

  89. بماذا يعوِّضُها المستعيض

    بماذا يعوض هذي الخدودْ

    Overflowing on them the ashes of fire

    As if you know their title

  90. مزبرةٍ كغصونِ الوُرود

    ومثقلة بثمارِ النُّهود

    And accompanied before their humanity

    And you've come to know what it says

  91. بهذي الوجوهِ .. بهذي العيونْ

    بهذا الرُّواءِ .. بهذا البَريقْ

    As if its feelings and tendencies

    Are horses allowed to wander

  92. يفيض عليها شُواظ الحريق

    كأنّكَ تَعرِفُ عُنْوانَها

    Wherever they want, and its field

    Is the hearts' core, and minds' purity

  93. ورافقتَ من قبلُ إنسانها

    وأصبحتَ تَعْرِفُ ماذا يقولْ

  94. كأنَ عواطفَهُ والميول

    خيولٌ أُبيحَ لها أنْ تَجول

  95. بحيثُ تشاءُ وميدانُها

    صميمُ القلوبِ وصَفْوُ العقول
