أُممٌ تَجِدُّ ونَلعبُ

ويُعذَّبون ونَطرَبُ

Nations struggle and play

And they are tortured and we are entertained

المَشرِقُ الواعي يَخُط

مَصيرهُ والمَغرب

The conscious East draws

Its fate and the West's

فهُنا دمٌ يَتعهَّد الجيلَ

الجديدَ فَيُسكب

So it is spilled

And here is a struggle - for the sake

وهنا كِفاحٌ – في سبيلِ

تحرُّرٍ – وتوثّب

Of liberation - leaping

And here are masses who are led

وهنا جماهيرٌ يخُبُّ

بها زعيمٌ أغلَب

By a victorious leader

While we live as seaweed lives

ونعيشُ نحنُ كما يعيشُ

على الضفافِ الطُحْلُب

On the banks, parasitic

Floating in it and settling

مُتطفِّلينَ على الوجودِ

نعومُ فيه ونَرْسُب

Hesitating, and the worst thing that killed ambition is hesitation

We inspire fear in the ranks

مُتذبذِبينَ وشرُّ ما

قتلَ الطُموحَ تَذبذب

With what we instill and fabricate

We call for the colonizers

نُوحي التطَيرَ كالغُرابِ

إلى النفوس وَتْعَب

To love their whip

We desire their approach though in it

ونبُثُّ رُعباً في الصفوفِ

بما ندُسُّ ونكذِب

Is our demise approaching

Retreating as obstinacy and bias desire

نَدعو إلى المستعمرينَ

لسوِطهم نَتَحبَّب

Iraq, with what we mobilize

Against it and provoke

نَهوى تَقَربَهم وفيه

حتفُنا يتقرّب

A home destroyed by its own hands

From what they collected

متخاذلينَ كما يشاءُ

تعنّتٌ وتعصّب

Life's path is rough

And the desert is far and barren

إنَّ العراقَ بما نُحَشِّدُ

ضِدَّه ونؤلَّب

Sweat on the forehead and over it blood drips

And skulls obstruct

بيتٌ على يدِ أهلهِ

مِمَّا جَنَوا يَتخرَّب

The weak and frighten

The heir walks on it

إنَّ الحياةَ طريقُها

وعرٌ بعيدٌ مُجدِب

Achieving what the father outlined

And how many a group fell behind

عرَقُ الجبينِ على

الدماء فويَقها يتصببَّ

And were scattered from it

While after it the oases, their meadows lush and watering places

ومِنَ الجماجم ما يَعيقُ

الواهنينَ ويُرْهِب

And we want for it a methodical approach

That does not lean

يَمشي عليها الآبِنُ

يُنجِزُ ما تَرَسَّمهُ الأب

Eminence prospers under

The shade of our strife and position

ولكَم تخلَّفَ مَعشرٌ

عنها وشُرِّدَ مَوكب

Say to the youth, be energetic

And awake and come together

ووراءها الواحاتُ طابَ

مراحُها والمَشرَب

And prepare for the emergencies

For they are preparing

ونُريدُ نحنُ لها طَريقاً

منهجاً لا يُنْصِب

It will applaud what it sees

Admiring and amazed

الجَاهُ ينْعَمُ تحتَ

ظِلِّ جِهادِنا والمنَصِب

What we used to say East and West

Will disappear

قُلْ للشبابِ تحفَّزوا

وتيقَّظوا وتألَّبوا

The bond between peoples will become

Hated and loved

وتأهِّبوا للطارئاتِ

فانَّها تَتأهَّب

Go on and do not feel lonely

And return, do not be afraid

سيَجِدُّ ما سيطولُ

إعجابٌ به وتعجّب

Do not thirst, for life

Its spring never runs dry

سيزولُ ما كنَّا

نقولُ مُشرِّقٌ ومُغرِّب

Go on lightly, your spirit

And its clarity and creed

ستكونُ رابطةَ الشعوبِ

مبغَّضٌ ومُحَبَّب

Do not weigh it down with the difficult

And the strange and tire yourselves

سِيروا ولا تستوحشوا

ورِدُوا ، ولا تَتَهيَّّبوا

And seek out a horizon clouded over

And watch carefully

لا تَظمأوا إن الحياةَ

مَعينُها لا يَنْضُب

A specter rises for you

Drenched in spilled blood

سِيروا خِفافاً ، نَفْسُكمْ

وصَفاؤها ، والمذهب

Green like youth and as if

He rolled in ashes, growing gray

لا تُثقلوها بالعويصِ

وبالغريبِ فتتعَبوا

With two cheeks, so intimate

A coward. And another frightening

وتَلَمَّسوا أُفقاً تلبَّدَ

غَيَمُهُ ، وترقَّبوا

He yearns for yesterday and frowns

At it... and purses his lips

يَنْهّضْ لكُمْ شَبحٌ

بمسفوحِ الدماءِ مُخَضَّب

And the dawn of tomorrow waves so he runs

Toward it and welcomes

غضِرُ الصِبا وكأنَّه

مِمَّا تغبَّرَ أشيب

An elder comes to it and

A destroyer fears it

ذو عارضتَينِ فمؤنسٌ

جَذِلٌ . وآخر مُرعِب

He experienced life so nothing

Eluded him, prepared and bred

يَرنو إلى أمسٍ فيعبِسُ

عندهَ ... ويُقطِّب

And what was hidden from his eyes is

Veiled and gone

ويلوحُ فجرُ غدٍ فيركُض

نحوه ويُرحَّب

So be inspired by him for the best one

To map out the path is one experienced

يأوي إليهِ مُعمَّر

ويخافُ منه مُخرّب

Do not freeze for nature

Is free and changing

مخضَ الحياةَ فلم يُفُتْهُ

مُصرَّحٌ ومُرَوَّب

Be like pebbles on the slope

Of gravel seeping through

وانزاحَ عنْ عينيهِ ما

يُطوى عليه مُغَيَّب

Rocks come in its way

So it passes them and goes

فاستلهِموهُ فخيرُ من

رَسَمَ الطريقَ مُجرِّب

And take the aspects of opportunities

From circumstances and flip them over

لا تجمُدوا إنّ الطبيعةَ

حُرَّةٌ تتقلَّب

And if they are still, then split them

And if they dwindle, turn away

كونوا كرقراقٍ بِمَدرجةِ

الحَصى يتسَرَّب

And if you find an ember

Then place the wick and ignite

نأتي الصخورُ طريقَه

فيجوزُهنَّ ويَذهب

With your hands extend

To this mixture and kindle

وخُذوا وُجوهَ السانحاتِ

منَ الظروفِ فقلِّبوا

And take your coals

Again and again and stir up

فاذا استوَتْ فتَقحََّّموا

وإذا التوَتْ فتَنكبَّوا

Do not fear to anger

Those pleased that you angered

وإذا وجدتُم جذوةً

فضعوا الفتيلَ وألهِبوا

Be like a storm that tosses

Sands and plays

مُدُّوا بأيديِكم إلى

هذا الخليطِ فشذِّبوا

And seek out those

Seeking your ends

وتناولوا جَمراتِكم

آناً وآناً فاحصِبوا

Do not despair if your number is few

To overcome

لا تَحذَروا أن تُغْضِبوا

مَن سرَّهُ أنْ تُغضَبوا

If there is no cause extending

Your steps, then cause one

كُونوا كعاصفةٍ تُطَّوحُ

بالرمالِ وتَلعب

Do not recoil for life

Approaches you

وتطلَّبوا بالحتفِ مَن

لحتُوفِكُمْ يتَطلَّب

Tomorrow is near with ripe fruits

And ripened

لا يُؤيسَنَّكُمُ مُقلُّ

عَديدكم أنْ تَغْلِبوا

Struggle is a task

That the ambitious perceive

إنْ لم يكنْ سببٌ يَمُدُّ

خُطاكُمُ فتسبَّبوا

Those who cloaked themselves

And bundled up and covered themselves

لا تَنْفروا إن الحياةَ

إليكمُ تتقرَّب

And whispered thinly like the consolation

Of barren "Jundub" being milked

لكمُ الغدُ الداني القُطوفِ

وصَفْوُهُ المُستَعْذَب

Will see their steps and lips

And heads line up

إنّ النضالَ مُهِمَّةٌ

يَعيا بها المُتَرهِّب

In rows as the bricklayer arranged them

A skilled worker

سَيرى الذينَ تدَّثروا

وتزمَّلوا وتَجَلْببوا

Life is swift

And bold, undefeated

وتحدثَّوا نَزْراً كمِعْزاةٍ

بجدب تُحلب

It casts behind the weights of years

And follows up

وتَنادَروا هَمْساً كما

ناغَى " جنيدبَ " جُنْدُب

And tramples those who cannot

Keep pace and disciplines

خطواتُهمْ وشِفاهُهم

ورْوسُهم تَترتَّب

نَسَقاً كما الآجُرُّ صَفَّفَهُ

صَناعُ مُدَرَّب

إنّ الحياةَ سريعة

وجريئة لا تُغْلَب

تَرمي بأثقالِ السنينَ

وراءها وتُعَقِّب

وتدوسُ مَن لا يستطيعُ

لَحاقها وتؤدِّب
