1. سيدي أنت أيها الحق والعزةُ

    والفخرُ والندى والعَلاءُ

    My master, you are the truth, might,

    Pride, dew, and loftiness.

  2. ذُريَتْ في الهواء ملكاً مشاعاً

    يتساوى فيها الثرى والفضاء

    You made yourself equally shared in the air,

    The soil and space are equal under you.

  3. كلُ ما نستطيعهُ لكَ حبٌ

    وخشوع ووقفة وانحناء

    All we can do for you is love,

    Reverence, standing still, and bowing down.

  4. واعتبار المحسنين وإذ يَحسُن

    صنعٌ وإذ يُساءُ جزاء

    And consider good-doers, and when one does good,

    It is an act, and when one does evil, a recompense.

  5. يا لصوقاً بالأرض وهو وإيا

    ها انطراحٌ ونعمة ونَماء

    O so attached to the earth! Yet it and he

    Are a recumbence, a grace, and growth.

  6. يا وديعاً لوى من الأسد المكلوب

    ذيلا فقر منه العُواء

    O gentle one who took from the fierce lion

    A tail, so the howling weakened.

  7. يا شُعاعاً من النبوة تستهدي

    به الأرض أرسلته السماء

    O ray from the prophecy that the earth takes guidance from,

    That the heaven sent down.

  8. يا سليل الفجرين بوذا وكونفشيوسَ

    منه سناهما يُستضاء

    O descendant of the two dawns, Buddha and Confucius,

    From them, their years give light.

  9. يا رحيماً لمَّ القلوبَ على جمرة

    حُبٍّ فذابت الشحناء

    O merciful one who joined hearts on embers

    Of love, so enmity melted away.

  10. والتقت أمة تفُل سلاح البغي

    وهو الوديعةُ العزلاء

    And a nation prone to unsheathe the sword of aggression met,

    It is the lonely legacy.

  11. يا زعيماً آخى الصعاليكَ

    والتمت عليه تحوزه الفقراء

    O leader who bonded the riffraff,

    And the destitute clung to him, protected by the poor.

  12. يا هتوفاً بالبشر لم تُخْرِس

    الضحكةَ منه بليَّةٌ وعناء

    O shouts at humanity that did not make

    The smile silent from it, but calamity and hardship.

  13. أيها الكوكبُ الذي انحسرت عنه

    من البؤس هالةٌ غبراء

    O planet that the murky halo of misery

    Receded from.

  14. والتوى السيف وانزوى العنفُ وانفكّت

    رقابٌ ولم تُطَلَّ دماء

    And the sword sheathed, and violence retreated, and necks unchained,

    And blood was not spilled.

  15. قلتَ كوني شيئا مئاتِ الملايينِ

    فكانت، وخير شيء يُشاء

    You said "Be something" to hundreds of millions,

    So they became, and the best thing to will.

  16. نَبتتْ في مجاهل البؤسِ والذلةِ

    في الشرق واحةٌ غنّاء

    In the ignorant East grew an orchard singing praise,

    Watered with the dew of good and mercy.

  17. وارتوتْ بالندى ندى الخير والرحمة

    والعز تربةٌ جرداء

    Then Delhi, Peking called, so it answered them,

    And it echoed the call back from them.

  18. ثم نادت " دلهي " " بكينَ " فلبتها

    وردَّ النداءَ منها النداء

    Then it rumbled here, and though it deafens hearing

    In the East, echoes crawl.

  19. ثم دوَّت هنا ولمّا تُصمّ السمعَ

    في الشرق زاحفاً اصداء

    You're not the wondrous magician they claimed,

    But a will and a determination.

  20. لستَ بالساحر العجيب كما قالوا

    ولكن إرداةٌ وَمَضَاء

    And capable of miracles is a conscience

    Of purity, essence, and serenity.

  21. وكفيلٌ بالمعجزات ضميرٌ

    ونقاء وجوهرٌ وصفاء

    You're not the wondrous magician, but

    A decree whose time came and fate.

  22. لستَ بالساحر العجيبِ ولكن

    قَدَرٌ حان وعدهُ وقضاء

    You were in it the conscience of those millions,

    They awoke, and the veil lifted from them.

  23. كنتَ فيه ضميرَ تلك الملايينِ

    أفاقت وانزاح عنها الغشاء

    And faithful to their great message,

    And its duty was due and the performance.

  24. وأمينا على رسالتها الكبرى

    وقد حان فرضُها والأداء

    O beautiful in chest, boasting of the treasure

    Within it, his lucid conscience.

  25. يا مليحاً صدراً يفاخر بالمكنون

    منه ضميرُه الوضّاء

    Gandhi protected the blood of the masses and protected

    India, so the ravenous would not ravage it.

  26. صان غاندي دمَ الجموع وصانَ

    الهند أنْ تستبيحَها شعواء

    And he sheltered birds and beasts from slaughter,

    And an lenient law stood upright.

  27. وحمى الطيرَ والسوامَ من الذبح

    وقامت شريعةٌ سمحاء

    Does his shrine spill

    Stains of his blood, red?

  28. أفَمحرابُه تسيل عليه

    بقع من دمائه حمراء

    O East, you still have passions

    That rebelled, and diseases still.

  29. أيها الشرق لم تزل بك أهواءٌ

    تعاصت ولم تزل أدواء

    And peace be upon the prophet who supported him

    With a soul from where the prophets are.

  30. وسلامٌ على النبي أمدته

    بروح من عندها الأنبياء
