1. مرحباً بالمتوج الغِطريفِ

    حاملاً للعراق بُشرى جَنيفِ

    Welcome oh crowned monarch

    Bringing Iraq glad tidings of Geneva

  2. ناهضاً بالثقيلِ من عِبء هذا

    الوطن النَكدِ عابِئاً بالخفيف

    Bearing the heavy burden of this

    Gloomy, distressed homeland, relieving with the light

  3. رجلُ الأمَّة التي أنجبت الف

    شريف من بيت هذا الشريف

    The man of the nation that produced thousands

    Of noble ones from this noble house

  4. واخو الوقفة الرهيبةِ والخطبة

    تدوي في المحِفِلِ المرصوف

    And brother of the formidable stance and speech

    That reverberates in the crowded assembly

  5. بلطيفٍ من التعابير يجري

    في مَدَبٍ من الكلام لطيف

    With gentle expressions flowing

    In a stream of eloquent speech

  6. لغة الضاد في فم الملِك الفذِّ

    تباهي بحسنِها الموصوف

    The language of “Dhad” in the mouth of the accomplished king

    Boasting of its beauty to the described

  7. واذا ما تفاضلوا فَضَلَ الجمعَ

    بانقى مخارجٍ للحروف

    And if they competed, the group preferred

    The most delicate articulation of letters

  8. وربيط الجَنانِ والميتهُ الحمراءُ

    ترمي بها اكفُّ الحتُوف

    Plucking flowers and the red oleander

    Throwing them are palms of the enamored

  9. ينقل الخطوَ فوقَ شِلوِ صديقٍ

    او على مُخ صاحبٍ مقذوف

    Moving steps over the robe of a friend

    Or over the brain of a tossed companion

  10. عالماً أنَّ خيرَ ما ركب المرءُ

    إلى غاية متونَ السيوف

    Knowing that the best a man mounted

    To the point of the swords

  11. وطريقٍ مشى بها في سبيلِ العُرْبِ

    بالشوكِ والأذى مَحفوف

    And a path he walked in service of the Arabs

    Lined with thorns and harm

  12. داخلاً في مآزق ليس يخلو المرءُ

    في مثلها من التّعنيف

    Entering into straits, a man cannot

    Be devoid of rebuke in the likes of them

  13. بهرَ الساسةَ الدهاةَ حصيفٌ

    ذائع الصيتِ بين كلِّ حصيف

    Amazing the shrewd statesmen, renowned

    Among all the discerning

  14. لامعٌ في صفوفهمْ تقع العَينُ

    عليه من دونِ مِن في الصفوف

    Shining in their ranks, the eye falls upon him

    Among whoever is in the rows

  15. لَمسوا منه في التصافُحِ كفاً

    لم يَرَوا مثلَ وقعِها في الكفوف

    They touched from him in the handshake, a palm

    They did not see the likes of its impact in palms

  16. خَبَّرتْ فوقَها خطوطُ السُلامياتِ

    عن أيَّ ماهرٍ عِريّف

    The lines of peace told over it

    Of what a skilled, noble one

  17. عن لطيفٍ في ساعَتيه مَهيبٍ

    وأديبٍ في موقفَيه ظريف

    Of a gentle one, formidable in his hour

    And cultured in his stances, witty

  18. وجَموعٍ للحالتين نسيمٍٍ

    في ظروفٍ وعاصفٍ في ظُروف

    And crowds for both conditions, a breeze

    In circumstances and stormy in circumstances

  19. وأرتْهم ملامحَ العَرب الماضينَ

    سِيما هذا الطُوالِ النحيف

    And it showed them the features of the past Arabs

    Namely this slender tall one

  20. وجنةٌ تَنطف السرورَ عليها

    مسحةُ الهادئ الغيورِ الأسيف

    And a garden dripping happiness over it

    The wipe of the calm, zealous, grieving one

  21. وجبينٌ كغُرّةً البدرَ فيه

    أثرٌ للهمومِ مثلُ الكُسوف

    And a forehead like the crescent moon in it

    A trace of worries like an eclipse

  22. لو اطاقَتْ فيه الغضونُ لقصَّتْ

    عن عراكٍ مع الليالي ، عنيف

    If gazelles grazed in it, they would tell

    Of a struggle with the nights, intense

  23. فهُمُ واثقونَ كلَّ وثوقٍ

    أنهم واجدونَ خيرَ حَليف

    For they are certain, with all certainty

    That they found the best ally

  24. لم يعُقْهُ أمرُ العراق وبُغيا

    ثمرٍ للنهوض داني القُطوف

    The matter of Iraq did not fail him

    Fruit for rising, ripe fruits

  25. والرزايا تعِنُّ بين تليد

    مُعجزٍ حلُّه وبينَ طَريف

    And adversities complain between seasoned

    Miraculous is his solution and witty

  26. عن أماني سورّيةٍ وقلوبٍ

    من بنيها ترفُّ أيَّ رَفيف

    Of Syrian hopes and hearts

    Whose meekness pleases any gentle one

  27. إن في عيبة الملوك عهوداً

    هو في رعيهنَّ جدُّ عفيف

    Verily in the treasury of kings are covenants

    He in keeping them is very chaste

  28. عَبقاتٍ بذكر فيصلَ أيامَ

    دمَشقٍ وعهدِه المعروف

    Fragrances with the mention of Faisal's days

    Damascus and its known era

  29. ويكاد اللبيبُ يلمُسُ حباتِ

    قلوبٍ على نِقاط الحُروف

    And the sensible nearly touches beads

    Of hearts on the dots of letters

  30. لا تلُمْ سُوريا اذا بكت العهدَ

    بجَفن المولَّهِ الملهوف

    Do not blame Syria if it cried the covenant

    With the eyelid of the anxious beloved one

  31. إنها ذكرياتُ أمٍّ رؤوفٍ

    فَجعوها بواحدٍ مخطوف

    They are memories of a compassionate mother

    Whose grief took away one snatched

  32. مُتعَب الذهنِ بالسياسة لا ينُسيه

    أثقالَها جِمالُ المصيف

    Exhausted in mind with politics, it does not make him forget

    Its weights, the beauty of the summer

  33. عكفتْ أنفسٌ هناك على الأفراحِ

    والأنسِ بين خَمرٍ وهيف

    Souls there indulged in joys

    And company amid wine and partying

  34. تاركاتٍ عبءَ البلادِ ثقيلاً

    لغَيور على البلاد عَطوف

    Leaving the burden of the countries heavy

    On one protective and affectionate to the countries

  35. من دُعاة المألوفِ ما دام فيه

    مظهرٌ لائقٌ بشَعبٍ أنوف

    Of the advocates of the customary, as long as in it

    Is a decorum befitting a proud people

  36. فإذا كانَ حِطةً وجموداً

    فالعدوُّ اللدودُ للمألوف

    But if it was stagnant and static

    Then the sworn enemy of the customary

  37. وهو بين ذين لا بِعَنودٍ

    في الذي يَبتغي ولا بعَسوف

    And he between two, not stubborn

    In what he seeks, nor tempestuous

  38. حافِظٌ حُرمةَ الأنوف فإن هيجَ

    تَوَلَّتْ يداهُ رغمَ الأنوف

    Upholding the sanctity of proud ones, so if they are roused

    His hands turn despite the proud ones

  39. لا برِخوِ اليدَين في نهزه الفُرصةَ

    إنْ ساعَدَتْ ولا المكتوف

    Neither with slack hands missing an opportunity

    If it assists, nor inactive

  40. آخِذٌ بالذي يعِنُّ من الأمرِ

    ويخشى مَغَبَّةَ التسويف

    Taking what benefits the matter

    And fearing the detriment of procrastination

  41. يتركُ العُنفَ ما استطاعَ قديرٌ

    أنْ يَروضَ النفوس بالتَلطيف

    Leaving violence when able, destined

    To tame souls with gentle handling

  42. لا أُحابيكَ سيدي وأُراني

    لستُ في حاجةٍ إلى التعريف

    I do not flatter you my master, and show me

    As not needing identification

  43. أنتَ قَبْلَ الجميعِ تَعرِفُ أني

    في شعوري أجري على المكشوف

    You before all know that I

    In my feelings run openly

  44. سيدي ليس يُنكِرُ الشعبُ ما قمتَ

    بهِ نحوهُ من المعروف

    My master, the people do not deny what you did

    For them of good

  45. والمساعي التي تَجَشَّمْتَ فيها

    ألفَ هولٍ وألْفَ أمرٍ مُخيف

    And the efforts you undertook in them

    A thousand terrors and a thousand fearful matters

  46. إن ما بين حالَتَيْهِ لَفَرقاً

    مثلَ ما بين مشِيةٍ وَوُقوف

    Verily what is between his two conditions is a difference

    Like that between walking and standing

  47. وهو يَجزيْك بالجميلِ من الفِعْلِ

    جميلاً من الثناء المنيف

    And he rewards you for good deed

    With good praise, honest

  48. قدرت سَعيَك البلادُ فجاءتكَ

    أُلوفاً متلُوَّة بألوف

    The country appreciated your efforts so there came to you

    Thousands following thousands

  49. ولأمرٍ يَدوي الفضاءُ هُتافاً

    من مُحييَّك فوقَ كلِّ رَصيف

    And for a matter that echoes in space cheers

    From those congratulating you over every pavement

  50. حيث غصَّت بفُرجة الناسِ بغدادُ

    وغصَّت بيوتُها بالضيوف

    Where Baghdad was crowded with people in its streets

    And its homes crowded with guests

  51. وتبارَى الوفودُ من كل فَجٍّ

    كلُّ فرد مُشفَّعٌ برديف

    And delegations competed from every crevice

    Each individual escorted by a companion

  52. حاملاتٍ اليك تسليمةَ الأهلينَ

    من كلّ قريةٍ أو ريف

    Bearing to you the greetings of the families

    From every village or countryside

  53. غيرَ أنَّ البلادَ مازال فيها

    أثَرٌ للشَّقاءِ غيرُ طفيف

    Except the country still has in it

    A trace of misery, not insignificant

  54. زُمْرَةٌ ضِدُّ زمرةٍ ولفيفٌ

    تَعِبُ النفسِ في انتقاصِ لفيف

    A group against a group, and a gang

    Exhausting the soul in diminishing a gang

  55. وقويٌ باسم الضعافِ مجيلٌ

    ظُفْرَهُ في محزِّ ألفِ ضعيف

    And powerful in the name of the weak, beautiful

    Is his victory with thousands of weak ones

  56. وأكفٍ شَتَّى تدبّرُ شتّى

    لُعبَةٍ من وراءِ شَتَّى سُجوف

    And scattered hands plotting scattered

    Games behind scattered gloomy windows

  57. ولأنْتَ القديرُ بالرغم مما

    عِشْتَ من جَمْعِنا على التأليف

    And you are capable despite what

    You experienced of our gathering for accord

  58. ليس هذا المريضُ أوّلَ من عُولِجَ

    من دائِهِ العُضالِ فَعُوفي

    This patient is not the first to be treated

    Of his chronic illness, so healed
