O Indonesia, if your children are steadfast

Then war is their mother, and struggle their father

You have a history, on its pages

A fragrance diffuses, from spilled blood

As if from the radiance of dawn and its murmur

A light shines upon it, from your valleys

O Java, the second of Edens, with what

A soul desires, and what nature has poured into you

With what flows down its hills and valleys

    Of melted tin and alloy

With the rugged, twisted around you at dusk

And the naked, laughing from your shores

Its shadows have come upon the colonists

    And their queens and kings

    O mother of each grabber

Wretched in his misery and enslaved urchin

O mother of each outcast from his people

Who was granted heavens and lived like a slave

To whom does jihad befit if not ordered

A crown befitting the heads of your people

In each of your graves is a specter

Walking to you, and a screamer calling you

    To bolster your present bloodied

With the painful lamenting of your past

And from nature defending your children

To take from you what you give them

Manliness refuses to be torn by others

When they are deprived of craving from you

O Indonesia! And for creatures is partnership

    Nothing but Allah without partner

They parched you with the inferno of the East

And a branding iron of its humiliation branded you

And gave you to drink from a cup we drank the like

And it may be more bitter than yours

And so are you, and hatred has given birth

You give birth to the knotted rope
