إذا ظَعَنَتْ عَنّا بِجَادٌ فَلاَ دَنَتْ
ولا رَجَعَتْ حاشا مُعَيَّةَ والجَعْدِ
If Bajād strikes camp and leaves us, may they never draw near,
nor ever return—save Muʿayya and al-Jaʿd.
أَكُلُّ بِجَادٍ فَاقَدَ اللّه بَيْنَهُمْ
كحَيَّةَ يَسْتَهْدِي الطّعَامَ ولا يُهْدِي
Is every one of Bajād—may God part them from one another—
like a snake that asks you for food as a gift, yet gives you nothing in return?
