أَبى لَكَ أُبّاءٌ أَبى لَكَ مَجدُهُم

سِوى المَجدِ فَاِنظُر صاغِراً مَن تُنافِرُه

They refused you their nobility, refused you their glory,

Apart from glory look down on whoever opposes you.

قُبُورٌ أَصابَتها السيوفُ ثَلاثَةٌ

نُجومٌ هَوَت في كُلِّ نَجمٍ مَرائِرُه

Three graves struck by swords,

Three stars that fell, in each star its sparks.

فَقَبرٌ بِأَجبالٍ وَقَبرٌ بِحاجِرٍ

وَقَبرُ القَليبِ أَسعَرَ الحَربَ ساعِرُه

A grave amid mountains, a grave amid ruins,

And the grave of Al-Qalib set war ablaze.

وَشَرُّ المَنايا حالِكٌ وَسطَ أَهلِهِ

كَهُلكِ الفَتاةِ أَيقَظَ الحَيَّ حاضِرُه

The worst death is perishing amid your family,

Like the death of a maiden with her loved one present.
