إِنَّ سَليطاً كَاِسمِها سَليطُ
لَولا بَنو عَمروٍ وَعَمروٌ عيطُ
Indeed, Salit is sharp-tongued, true to its name.
Were it not for the sons of Amr—and Amr’s people are tall and long-necked—
قُلتُ دِيافِيّونَ أَو نَبيطُ
I would say, “Diyafites, or Nabataeans.”
