1. The companions departed, but Marrār did not depart.

    He remained behind those who left, while they journeyed on.

  2. May you not be far away, though every living being must perish,

    And every mortal's death has its appointed time.

  3. He was the finest, save for his father and his paternal uncle,

    And every people has its leaders and its finest men.

  4. They do not abandon their neighbor amid calamities,

    And they are a protecting neighbor to whoever fears calamities.

  5. And I say in anguish, now that we have been afflicted by his loss,

    While tears from my eye fall thick upon my cloak,

  6. To those burying the brother of noble deeds and generosity:

    By God, how great is what the stones have enclosed with you!
