1. I am indeed devoted to keeping ties, without hatred.

    And toward one whose rancor endures, I am resolute in severing ties.

  2. And one harboring a grudge against me could never

    Match my rashness, if I act rashly, nor my forbearance.

  3. And the wayward among men insist on flocking

    Against me; yet my bones refuse to soften for them.

  4. And you have always been, O swine of Taghlib, hiding in a burrow,

    In a place where you are protected, but give no protection.

  5. And were you to shoot at Tamim, blunted would be

    Your arrowheads by the mountains you shoot at.

  6. And I shall indeed present al-Ukhaytil with a blow

    That crushes his snout at the level of his eyes.

  7. You lie! We have indeed led the army, and the horses sped

    With us, plunging into the army and the dark masses.
