1. من كان في المجد المُؤثَّل راغباً

    فَلْيَطَّلبْه بهمّة البارودي

    Whoever aspires for glorious acclaim

    Let him seek it with Baroudi's determination

  2. فخري الذي ابتكر المفاخر وأغتدى

    منهنّ مفتخراً بكلّ جديد

    My pride Fakhrī who innovated prides and donned

    Of them becoming proud of each novelty

  3. وأبى سوى غُرِّ المَساعي إذ سعى

    مُتشبِّثاً منها بكل مُفيد

    And refused but the shooting of endeavors when he strove

    Clinging to each of them as beneficial

  4. وبنى له بدمشق مجداً طارفاً

    من بعد مجد في دمشق تَليد

    And built for himself in Damascus a lofty glory

    After the glory in Damascus being old

  5. أن كان محمود الفِعال فإنه

    ورِث المكارم عن أب محمود

    If Mahmoud is the doer of deeds, he

    Inherited the generosities from a praiseworthy father

  6. نفع البلاد بماله وبسَعْيِه

    وبحسن رأيٍ في الأمور سديد

    He benefited the countries with his money and effort

    And with good opinion in matters most just

  7. ورأى الشَتات بها فقام مُوَحِّداً

    فيها المساعيَ أيّما توحيد

    And saw the discord in them so he stood unifying

    In them the endeavors however unification

  8. ودعا الرجال بها فألَّف شِركةً

    ترمي إلى غرض أغرَّ حميد

    And called upon the men in them so he reconciled a company

    That aspires to a purpose most noble

  9. تغني البلاد بسعيها عن غيرها

    وتُعيد عهد ثرائها المفقود

    It enriches the countries with its effort over others

    And brings back the era of its lost wealth

  10. وتقوم بالعمل المفيد لأهلها

    من نسج أردِيَة لهم وبُرود

    And undertakes the useful work for its people

    Of weaving gowns and cloaks for them

  11. حتى تكون عن الأجانب في غِنىً

    وتعيش غير أسيرة التقليد

    Until it becomes of foreigners in no need

    And lives not prisoner of imitation

  12. أو ما ترى أهل البلاد تقيّدوا

    للغرب من حاجاتهم بقُيود

    Or what do you see the countrymen restricted

    To the West of their needs with shackles

  13. الغرب يكسوهم ملابس هم بها

    يَعرَوْن من مال لهم ونُقود

    The West dresses them with clothes they with which

    Bare of money for them and coins

  14. وتراه يَسْلَخهم بمصنوعاته

    سلخ الشياه فهم بغير جلود

    And you see it skin them with its manufactures

    Skinning the sheep and they without hides

  15. هذي سفائنهم تروح وتغتدي

    ببضائع لم تُحص بالتعديد

    These are their ships that come and attack

    With goods not counted in numbering

  16. فكأنما هي لامتصاص دمائنا

    بعض المحاجم أو كبعض الدود

    As if they are for sucking our blood

    Some conquerors or like some worms

  17. حتى متى نَشْقى ليَسْعَد غيرنا

    ونُذلِّل القُربى لعِزّ بعيد

    Until when do we suffer for others to be happy

    And humiliate the relatives for distant glory

  18. ونُجانب الوطنيّ من أشيائنا

    ولو أنّه من أحسن الموجود

    And boycott the national from our things

    Even if it is of the best existing

  19. أن البلاد لتشتكي من أهلها

    وتقول قول الرازح المجهود

    That the countries complain of their people

    And say the saying of the overburdened distressed

  20. يا سادة الأوطان لستم سادةً

    ما عِشتم من فقركم كعبيد

    Oh masters of the homelands, you are no masters

    Having lived in your poverty like slaves

  21. أفسيّد من عاش وهو لغيره

    في حاجة بل ذاك عيش مَسود

    Is master whoever lived for others

    Needy, but that is life blackened

  22. أن السيادة تستدير مع الغنى

    في حالتَيْ عدم له ووجود

    That sovereignty goes hand in hand with riches

    In both states of absence and existence

  23. لا يستقلّ بسيفه الشعب الذي

    لا يستقلّ بنقده المنقود

    A people cannot be independent with its sword if

    It cannot be independent with its minted coin

  24. من كان مَحلول العُرا في ماله

    وجب انحلال لوائه المعقود

    Whoever's glory is reliant on his money

    His hoisted banner must slip

  25. يا قومنا أنتم كغارس كرمة

    وسواه منها قاطف العُنقود

    Oh our people, you are like one planting a vine

    And others from it pluck the clusters

  26. كم تزرعون بأرضكم ولغيركم

    مما زرعتم حَبّ كل حَصيد

    How much you plant in your land and for others

    Of what you planted a grain of every crop

  27. فتبصّروا يا قوم في أحوالكم

    وتنبَّهوا من غفلة ورقود

    So reflect, oh people, on your state

    And wake from heedlessness and slumber

  28. من شاء منكم أن يُعزَّ بلاده

    فَلْيَسْعَ سعيَ مُعزّها البارودي

    Whoever among you wants his country honored

    Let him make the effort of its honorer Baroudi
