You in our separation and this estrangement

O Salima, you have crossed every limit

O Salima, you were too harsh in estranging

O Salima, with a lover in anguish sunk

You have a body that almost melts with gentleness

And a heart harder than solid rock

And my heart has a longing for you I see

Will soon drag me to ruin and destruction

O Salima, do not sever the rope of my connection

And sever, if you wish, the rope of my veins

Hasten so I die in you, otherwise

Allow me a glance from afar

How could you justify breaking promises

    That you made before witnesses?

By whom you justified it, O Salima

For my life, the jealous' hearts gloat

Excuse me, even with a promise, for I

O Salima, am content with promises

How sweet is the life we could spend

If we found someone to renew its promise

    Those promises are gone, alas

Then alas from me for those promises

The swaying of the lithe figure, Salima

For my life, was stingy, so my eyes pour generously

Long has been my rebuke of a time that cast me

With disasters that equal the slain Al-Walid's head

Many a night I spent sleepless in longing for you

Present in worry, absent in my witnesses

I watch the stars in it, my star Al-Thurayya

With eyes that never tasted the sweetness of sleep

Sorrows that diminish the edge of the meadows

And worries that eat the heart of iron

I remained seeing the stars until

Dawn shone clearly like a pillar

Or like the glimmer of despair that appeared

Or like a promise that traveled after a threat

And its light scattered what the night

Had of dark veils of woe
