أجد الحياة من الطبيعة تنبع

وإلى الطبيعة بعد حين ترجع

I find life springing from nature,

And to nature it returns after a while,

وكأنما هي دوحة فينانة

منها الغصون الى الجهات تفرع

As if it were a graceful painting,

From which branches extend in all directions.

تبدو وتخفى في الطبيعة نفسها

فكأنما منها لها مستودع

It appears and disappears into nature itself,

As if it has a repository within it.

ان الطبيعة في جميع شؤونها

كاللَه عن اعمالها لا تهجع

Nature in all its affairs,

Is like God - it does not sleep from its works.

تمتد في كل الجهات وتملأ

الابعاد حتى ليس يخلو موضع

It extends in all directions and fills

The dimensions until no place is devoid.

فهي المكان وكل ما هو يحتوي

وهي الزمان وكل ما هو يجمع

It is the space and all that it contains,

It is time and all that it brings together.

هي في حياتي جنتي وجهنمي

فيها نعيم لي ونار تلذع

It is my paradise and hell in life,

In it there is bliss for me and flames that burn.

ما في الطبيعة ارضها وسمائها

غير الطبيعة ما يضر وينفع

Nothing in its earth and skies,

Except nature harms or benefits.

هي مظهر للَه جل جلاله

واللَه تطلبه العقول فترجع

It is an appearance of God the Almighty,

And minds seek God and return.

ليست بحادثة ولكن صورة

قدمت كمبدعها فجل المبدع

It is not an occurrence but an image,

Eternal like its Originator, so Majestic is the Maker.

اما محاسنها فتلك كبيرة

اني بهن من القديم لمولع

As for its beauties they are great,

I have long been infatuated with them.

تسع المجرة في السماء عوالما

اما الطبيعة فهي منها اوسع

It contains worlds in the galaxies of the sky,

Yet nature is vaster than them.

وكأنما تبغي الكواكب مخرجا

منها فتعدو في الفضاء وتسرع

It is as if the planets desire an exit,

From it so they rush and accelerate,

مدفوعة فيه كأن يداً للها

من خلفها في كل حين تدفع

Propelled in it as if by God's hand,

Pushing them from behind at all times.

لا شيء عن حضن الطبيعة فاصلى

هي مبدئي وقرارتي والمرجع

Nothing is separate from nature's embrace,

It is my origin, abode and destination.

انا لست منها غير جزء قد جثا

في نقطة من ارضه يتطلع

I am but a part of it fallen,

On a spot of earth looking up.

انا طفلها المولود من احشائها

ولدرها في كل حين ارضع

I am its child born from its depths,

Suckling its milk at all times.

الشمس تطلع في النهار جميلة

فاذا توارت فالكواكب تطلع

The sun rises beautiful in the daytime,

When it disappears the stars rise.

من كان قد هدت الطبيعة ذوقه

فبشمسها ونجومها يتمتع

Whoever nature has refined his taste,

Finds joy in its sun and stars.

اما الذي هو للطبيعة جاهل

فمن الطبيعة حسبه المستنقع

As for him who is ignorant of nature,

The marshes are enough for him.

اهوى منيحتها واقلى ردّها

لهباتها فانا العصي الطيع

I love its serenity and follow its flow,

Its flames so I am obedient wood.

كم من صديق في التراب دفنته

وسقت ثراه من عيوني الادمع

How many friends have I buried in the soil,

And watered their tombs with tears from my eyes.

فذكرته ولقد تلينّ مضجعي

وذكرته ولقد اقضى المضجع

I remembered them and my bed softened,

I remembered them and lost all rest.

لم يبق لي في الروض الا زهرة

واخاف ان تقضى عليها زعزع

In the meadow remains but one flower,

I fear it will be plucked by tempest.

ولتلك مؤنستي ولست بعالم

أهي التي بي ام بها انا افجع

It is my companion and I know not,

Do I lament it or does it make me lament?

خيط الحياة وهي فما عندي سوى

امل يوصله ويأس يقطع

The thread of life, it alone remains,

A hope to reach it and despair to sever it.

ولقد اذم من الصبا في زهوه

بعض الجهالة فهي بئس المرتع

I have been blamed since youth in its pride,

For some ignorance - miserable is the pasture!

ولرب امر جئته بجهالة

واليوم من ندم لسني اقرع

And for things I did out of ignorance,

Today I strike my grey hair in regret.

ان لم يكن فيه لشيطان يد

فله اذا فتشت عنه اصبع

If there was no devil's hand in it,

There is when I search - a finger!

لكنما الانسان من اهوائه

والعيش في عهد الصبا لا يشبع

But man is tempted by his whims,

And living in the days of youth is never sated.

ذهب الشباب فما الشباب براجع

واتى المشيب وانه لا يقلع

Youth departed and shall not return,

Old age came and does not depart.

ولقد يعاب علي في شيخوختي

اني الى ليلى الحقيقة انزع

In my old age I am blamed,

For being truly devoted to Laila.

انا بعدما قد سرت في حبي لها

شوطاً بعيدا لست عنه ارجع

After journeying long in loving her,

I do not turn back from it.

ابكي اذا مرت لترحمني فلا

ليلى ترق ولا دموعي تشفع

I weep if she passes to have mercy on me, but

Neither does Laila soften, nor do my tears intercede.

القلب يخفق في حين تمر بي

فتعيد ذاك الخفق مني الاضلعغ

My heart flutters when she passes me,

Restoring the fluttering to my ribs.

وارى امامي للهموم سحابة

اما السحابة فهي لا تنقشع

I see before me a cloud of worries,

While the cloud does not dissipate.

الضاحكون من البعيد كأنهم

حزب على ان يشمتوا بي اجمعوا

The mockers from afar are like a party,

Who have agreed to gloat over me altogether.

وهناك مفتخر بايقاع الاذى

وكأن من يؤذي سواه سميذع

There boasting in inflicting harm,

As if none other than he causes pain.

فاذا سكت اذاب مهجتي الاسى

واذا شكوت فليس لي من يسمع

So if I am silent, sorrow melts my essence,

And if I complain, there is none who listens.

بلغ النفاق باهله غاياتهم

فهل النفاق هو الطريق المهيع

Hypocrisy has reached its peaks among its people,

Is hypocrisy the paved road?

لا تفزعني بالمنية موعدا

فالحر ليس من المنية يفزع

Do not alarm me with death as a timed appointment,

For the free man is not alarmed by death.

عرج على وادي السلام تجد دما

فهناك ثم هناك كان المصرع

Stop by the valley of peace and you will find blood,

It was there and it was there the death occurred.

قل للذي يعدو وراء غريمه

إما ظفرت به فماذا تصنع

Tell the one who chases his enemy,

Whether you subdue him, what will you do?

ان الدم المسفوك يثأره الفتى

لدم سفيك قبله لا يرجع

For the spilt blood will be avenged by the youth,

For the blood spilled before it does not return.

لا تنقبض ان قلت جدك لم يكن

في الاصل الا قرد غاب يرتع

Do not withdraw if I say your grandfather,

Was not originally but an ape grazing.

فاذا تولى مبعدا عن غابه

فمن الخنافس ينتقيها يشبع

For when he turned away from his forest,

He chose from insects to satiate himself.

والآن لو تصغي ازيدك فانتبه

علماً بقولي جدجدك ضفدع

And now if you listen I will increase you in knowledge,

With my saying your grandfather was a frog!

نسب عليه الشمس من اضوائها

ثوبا جديدا كل يوم تخلع

The sun cast its rays on him from its lights,

Dressing him in a new robe everyday it discards.

واذا تصدع منك جسمك للردى

يوما فروحك مثله تتصدع

And if your body cracks from decay,

One day your soul will similarly crack.

والروح ليس سوى الحياة تشاركت

زمراً خلايا الجسم فيها اجمع

The soul is but life shared,

Among the group of cells that comprise the body altogether.

هي في الجماد خفية لبساطة

فيها فلا تبدو ولا تتفرع

It is hidden in inanimate things due to their simplicity,

It does not appear or branch out.

اما النبات فانها منحطة

فيه فلا يرنو ولا يتسمع

As for plants it falls short within them,

Neither intending nor hearing.

وتنوع الحيوان يرقى صاعدا

حتى بدا القرد السوي الافرع

And the diversity of animals rises progressively,

Until the erect ape appeared with branches.

وتفرد الانسان بين لداته

بدهائه فله المقام الارفع

And the exclusivity of man among creatures,

With his wit - so his station is most high.

والسبرمان اذا تولد فهو من

هذا وذلك في الدراية اوسع

When Superman is born he is,

More learned than this and that in knowledge.

والسبرمان هو الحكيم فانه

لأذى الطبيعة بالطبيعة يدفع

And Superman is wise, so he,

Repels the harm of nature with nature.

والسبرمان مجهز بقوى لها

تعنو الرقاب فليس منها مفزع

And Superman is equipped with powers,

That subdue necks so there is no escape from them.

والسبرمان موفق في امره

والسبرمان لغيره لا يخضع

And Superman succeeds in his affairs,

And Superman does not submit to others.
