1. يراع صنانيد الكتابة كالعضب

    يدور عليه ما على الارض من حرب

    The quills of writing are like spears

    Revolving around what wars are on earth

  2. وان لاقلام عن الحق ذادة

    لضربا كما للمشرفية من ضرب

    And if the pens deviate from the truth

    They strike as the swords of Musharrif strike

  3. ورب بلاد اخر الجهل اهلها

    فقاسى بها الاحرار خطبا على خطب

    The ruler of a country whose people are ignorant

    So the free suffered misfortunes upon misfortunes

  4. وكم من بريئ مبعد عن دياره

    على غير ما جرم وفي غير ما ذنب

    How many innocents exiled from their homes

    For no crime or sin they committed

  5. ولكن من في صدره قلب يونس

    يدافع في اليوم العصبصب عن شعب

    But he in whose heart lives a heart like Jonah's

    Defends on a painful day his people

  6. اذا انا لم اشهد لقومي تقدما

    قضيت من اليأس المبرح بي نحبي

    If I do not testify to the progress of my people

    I will perish from the despair that destroys me

  7. خلقنا عليها امة عربية

    نحاول طياً للمسافات بالوثب

    We were created as an Arab nation

    Trying to span distances in a leap

  8. نريد من الايام مجدا مؤثلا

    ولو كان ذاك المجد في مرتقى الشهب

    We want from days glory abounding

    Even if that glory is on the edge of flame

  9. خذوا المجد اما غيره ان لبسته

    فليس سوى رسم بايدي البلى نهب

    Take glory, but if you wear anything else

    It is but a pattern, prey to decay

  10. يرى بعضهم في الكذب منه سياسة

    وما كل شعب يطمئن الى الكذب

    Some among them see policy in lying

    Yet not every people is reassured by lies

  11. لقد عاث في الحملان قبلا رعاتها

    ويا رب راع كان شراً من الذئب

    The shepherds before destroyed their sheep

    Oh Lord, a shepherd was worse than a wolf

  12. طويل على الايام عتبى بموطني

    ولكنما الايام صم عن العتب

    I have long blamed my homeland

    But days are deaf to blame

  13. لقد نال من اخوانه الغريونس

    حفاء الى ان قال مكتفياً حسبي

    It got from its naive brothers

    Until, contented, it said "enough for me"!

  14. اذا كان عن عين المحبه راحلا

    فما هو ممن يرحلون عن القلب

    If it has traveled far from the eye of affection

    Then it is not one of those who leave the heart

  15. رعى الله هذا الحفل بالعين انه

    حوى دارة حول الحفي من الصحب

    May God watch over this gathering, for it

    Circled the protected one from all sides

  16. تحف به الاصحاب من كل جانب

    كما حفت العين البصيرة بالهدب

    The companions encircled him

    As the eyelid encircles the discerning eye

  17. عرفت له في الموقف الصعب قدرة

    ويعرف قدر المرء في الموقف الصعب

    I knew in the difficult position he had power

    And a man's worth is known in the difficult position

  18. وبين قلوب الناس اما تماثلت

    مبادئهم يوما طريق من الحب

    If their principles one day resembled each other

    A path of love would be between people's hearts

  19. له ثروة موفورة من خصاله

    وما اكثر الاوراق في الفنن الرطب

    He has abundant wealth of traits

    And how many are the tender leaves among dry plants

  20. هو العضب يحمى حق شعب اضاعه

    من الجبن افراد وامضى من العضب

    He is the spear protecting the right of a people who lost it

    More decisive than the spear and more just

  21. فتى عربي النجر يصبيك خلقه

    ومن احسن الاخلاق في المرء ما يصبي

    An Arab youth whose nature fits you

    And the best trait in a man is what fits him

  22. صريح لحزب الله في الارض ينتمي

    واكبر بحزب الله في الارض من حزب

    Sincere to Hezbollah on earth he belongs

    And the greatest party on earth is God's party

  23. سيبقى نهار الناس ابيض مبصرا

    وان حال دون الشمس سد من السحب

    The people's day will remain white and seeing

    Even if a barrier of clouds comes between it and the sun

  24. وللارض ارواح وشمس مضيئةض

    فيا شمسها ذرى ويا ريحها هبى

    The earth has spirits and a shining sun

    So oh its sun shine and oh its wind blow!

  25. اراد فريق بالعظام تشبها

    واين الوطيئ المطمئن من الهضب

    A group wanted bones to be like

    But where is the calm, assured precipice?

  26. عزيز على اهل العراق جميعهم

    فراق اخيهم يونس الكاتب الندب

    Dear to all Iraqis

    Is their brother Yunus the lamented writer

  27. وددت لو اني كنت يوم رحيله

    اسير على الضعف الذي بي مع الركب

    I wished I had on the day of his departure

    Walked in the weakness that is in me with the caravan

  28. اذا شئت فابعد عن ذويك او اقترب

    فانك موموق على البعد والقرب

    If you want, stay away from your loved ones or draw near

    For you are watched closely in distance and nearness

  29. ستلقى على كل البقاع حفاوة

    وتنزل في كل البلاد على الرحب

    You will find hospitality in all lands

    And settle in every country with ease

  30. واما احتفال الشعب هذا فانه

    لعمري احتفال فيك بالنفس للشعب

    As for the people celebrating you

    By my life, it is the people celebrating itself

  31. يريد اناس ان تطأطئ ساكتا

    عن الحق حتى يدفن الحق في الترب

    Some people want you to bow your head silently

    Until truth is buried in the dust

  32. وما الحر الا من يقول بجرأةض

    ويمشي مع الاحداث جنبا الى جنب

    But the free man is one who speaks boldly

    And walks alongside events side by side

  33. وان الحجا الوقاد في ذي زعامة

    سراج يدل التهائهين على الدرب

    The pilgrim-leader has leadership

    A lantern guiding the lost on the road

  34. اذا هددوا بالنفي يونس او نفوا

    فلست ترى في وجهه اثر الرعب

    If they threaten Yunus with exile or exile him

    You will not see any trace of fear on his face

  35. فما صد عن نصر الحقيقة يونسا

    وعيد ولا نحاه وعد عن الذب

    Neither threat nor promise could deter Yunus

    From supporting the truth

  36. اذا لم يحرر كاتب عن عقيدة

    فليس لفتق في السياسة من رأب

    If a writer does not liberate himself for his creed

    There is no mending political disunity

  37. اقول لجيران لنا لا تبجحوا

    فنحن سواء في المصيبة والكرب

    I say to neighbors, do not gloat

    For we are equal in tribulation and distress

  38. بنو العرب في العصر الاخير لنفسهم

    اشد عداء او قلى من بني العرب

    The Arabs in the recent age are to themselves

    More hostile, or rather, than the Arabs are to each other

  39. واكبر خصم للعروبة ولدها

    فيا اسفي في كل يوم على العرب

    And the greatest enemy of Arabism that it bore

    Oh my sorrow for the Arabs grows every day

  40. ولم يتولد بعد في العرب مصلح

    ولكنه بين الترائب والصلب

    A reformer has not yet been born among the Arabs

    But rather amid entrails and loins
