خطبت تؤبنك الدموع

ومشت تشيعك الجموع

Tears preached your eulogy

And crowds walked to bid you farewell

في موقف خطباؤه

عييت ولم تعي الدموع

In a stance, its speakers

Were dumbfounded, and tears did not comprehend

العين ترسل دمعها

والدمع اكثره نجيع

The eye sheds its tears

And most of the tears are heartfelt

ليس الدموع لدى الرزايا

غير أفئدة تميع

For afflicted souls, tears are naught

But hearts that melt

تحت الضلوع لهيب نا

ر ما تحمله الضلوع

Under the ribs is a burning fire

That ribs cannot bear

اما الصدوع من الاسى

فلقد تكاثرت الصدوع

As for the cracks from sorrow

Indeed, the cracks have multiplied

ماذا جرى حتى تهيّج

هكذا البلد الوديع

What has happened that provoked

This peaceful nation so?

سر في سبيلك راشداً

واذهب كما ذهب الربيع

You walked bravely down the path

And left, as spring left

الشعب يمشي خاشعاً

وامامه النعش الرفيع

The people walk solemnly

Before them, the lofty coffin

قد ميزتك رجاحة

في العقل والخلق الوسيع

Wisdom distinguished you

Of broad intellect and manners

وصنعت ما بلغت يدا

ك وحبذا منك الصنيع

You did what your hands could reach

And excellent was your work

والمرء ليس بفاعل

الا لما هو يستطيع

One can only do

What he is capable of

ان كان فيصل آفلا

فلنجله غازي طلوع

If Faisal is gone

Then for his son Ghazi, a new dawn

غازي زعيم الشعب فهو

لغير غازي لا يطيع

Ghazi, the people's leader, he only

Obeys Ghazi, and no other

في وحدة عربية

للذود في دمها نزوع

In Arab unity

To defend it, he is eager

في ليل حزني كانت الظلماء

عابسة تروع

In my night of sorrow, darkness

Was gloomy and disturbing

فاذا مضى منه هزيع

جاء يخلفه هزيع

And when part of it faded

Another part came, replacing

حتى اذا طلع الصبا

ح وقام ابيضه يشيع

Until the morning broke

And its whiteness started spreading

ساءلت من ملك العرا

ق فقيل لي غازي القريع

I asked who rules Iraq

And I was told Ghazi the radiant

ملك كأن التاج فو

ق جبينه نجم لموع

A king whose crown atop

His brow is like a shining star

يا فرحتي بالتاج ان

التاج حق لا يضيع

My joy with the crown

For the crown is a right that persists

اصل الزعامة فيصل

والاصل تتبعه الفروع

The lineage of leadership is Faisal’s

And the branches follow the origin

اشرع فان مهمة

الاصلاح اولها الشروع

Set sail, for the task

Of reform, its beginning is paramount

وأمر فكل بني العرو

بة حين تأمرهم سميع

And command, for all Arab folks

When you command them, are compliant
