لاحَت لِعَينِكَ مِن بُثَينَةَ نارُ

فَدُموعُ عَينِكَ دِرَّةٌ وَغِزارُ

The fire's flame appeared in your eyes,

So your tears became pearls and plentiful.

وَالحُبُّ أَوَّلُ ما يَكونُ لَجاجَةً

تَأتي بِهِ وَتَسوقُهُ الأَقدارُ

Love is foremost in becoming impassioned,

Brought by fate and led by the decrees.

حَتّى إِذا اِقتَحَمَ الفَتى لُجَجَ الهَوى

جاءَت أُمورٌ لا تُطاقُ كِبارُ

Until when the young man braves the surges of passion,

Matters come that cannot be borne by the great.

ما مِن قَرينٍ آلِفٍ لَقَرينِها

إِلّا لِحَبلِ قَرينِها إِقصارُ

No devoted companion to her companion

Except the rope of her companion is short.

وَإِذا أَرَدتِ وَلَن يَخونَكِ كاتِمٌ

حَتّى يُشيعَ حَديثَكِ الإِظهارُ

And if you wanted - no secret keeper will betray you -

Until your talk is spread by disclosure.

كِتمانَ سِرُّكِ يا بُثَينَ فَإِنَّما

عِندَ الأَمينِ تُغَيَّبُ الأَسرارُ

Conceal your secret, O Buthaina, for truly,

Secrets are absent with the Trustworthy.
