I did not wish to be called cruel,
To frighten dreams away from her eyes,
And longing drives me to awaken her,
While my hand is wary of reaching for her.
It's as if slumber felt some comfort
And so remained, unmoving, on her eyelids,
Woe to my heart! How could it not be undone
By the sight of her tossing and turning?
She sighed from what her ribs concealed,
Oh longing, shame on you! Do not rouse her breasts!
It's enough of a reward that I looked upon her hair
Cascading down, sipping the dew of her cheek.
And I envy it when it settles down with her,
And it excites me, nestling between her arms,
I glance back longingly, like a lover who has no
Patience left in him, so enthralled am I with her.
But my manners stop me, and I keep my distance out of awe,
Wishing I could kneel at her feet,
So I waver between reverence for what I see
And raging flames, confused as to what I should do,
Perhaps my passions have reached such a state
That I've fallen unconscious onto her lips.
