عبس الخطبُ فابتسمْ
وطغى الهولُ فاقتحمْ
The fate frowned, so he smiled,
And terror prevailed, so he dared.
رابط الجأش والنهى
ثابتُ القلبِ والقدمْ
With steadfast heart and step,
He confronted prohibition and cowardice.
لم يُبالِ الأَذى ولم
يَثْنِهِ طارئُ الأَلمْ
He cared not for harm, nor
Did pain make him waver.
نفسهُ طَوْعُ هِمَّةٍ
وَجَمَتْ دونَها الهممْ
His soul obeys a purpose,
While other souls succumb to worries.
تلتقي في مزاجِها
بالأعاصير والُحممْ
In his disposition meet
Storms and violent blasts.
تجمعُ الهائجَ الخِضَم
إلى الراسخِ الأَشَمْ
He who gathers the swelling flood
To the firm, highland.
وَهَيَ من عُنصر الفِدَا
ء ومن جوْهر الكرم
He is of the essence of sacrifice
And the core of generosity.
ومن الحق جذْوةٌ
لفحُها حرَّرَ الأُممْ
And of truth, a spark
Whose flame freed the nations.
سارَ في منهج العلى
يطرُقُ الخلدَ منزلا
He walked the path of glory,
Seeking eternal life as his abode.
لا يبالي مكبَّلا
نالَهُ أمْ مُجَدَّلا
He cared not if shackled
Or gloriously appareled.
فهو رهْنٌ بما عزمْ
ربما غالَهُ الردى
For he was bound by his resolve.
Though perhaps depravity deceived him
وهو بالسِّجنِ مُرتهنْ
لم يشَّيعْ بدمعةٍ
And he was hostage in prison,
No loved one bade him farewell,
من حبيب ولا سَكَنْ
ربما أدرج التراب
No one to mourn him.
Perhaps the dust covered him
سليباً من الكفنْ
لستَ تدري بطاحُها
As a shroud stolen from his grave.
You know not where it hid him,
غيَّبتْهُ أم القُننْ
لا تقلْ أين جسمهُ
Did the abyss or tomb engulf him?
Say not, where is his body?
واسمُه في فم الزمنْ
إنه كوكب الهدى
His name is on the lips of time.
He is the star of guidance
لاحَ في غيْهبِ المحنْ
أرسلَ النُّور في العيونِ
Shining in the gloom of ordeals.
He sent light into the eyes
فما تعرفُ الوسنْ
ورمى النارَ في القلوبِ
So that mortality cannot perceive.
And he cast fire into the hearts
فما تعرفُ الضَّغَنْ
أيُّ وجه تهلّلا
So that enmity cannot discern.
What happy face welcomed
يَرِدُ الموتَ مُقْبلا
صَعَّدَ الرُّوح مُرسلا
Death with open arms?
The spirit soared unfettered
لحنَهُ يُنْشِدُ الملا
أنا لله والوطنْ
Chanting his verse to the angels.
I belong to God and the nation!
