وَداعاً سأَقتل هَذا الهَوى

وَأَدفنه في ضُلوع السِنين

Farewell, I will kill this passion

And bury it in the ribs of years

أَردُّ رَسائلك الباكيات

فَرُدّي رَسائل قَلبي الحَزين

I will return your tearful letters

So return the letters of my sorrowful heart

وَلَكن تَعالَي أَلم تغدري

وَداعاً سَأَسحق تِلكَ المُنى

But come, did you not betray?

Farewell, I will crush those wishes

وَأَنسفها بَدداً في الفَضا

سَأَهزَأ بِالعشق وَالعاشقين

And scatter them asunder in space

I will mock love and lovers

وَأَذهب مُستهتراً بِالقَضا

وَلَكن تَعالَي أَلم تغدري

And go nonchalant with fate

But come, did you not betray?

وَداعاً وَهَيهات أَن نَلتَقي

فَما أَنا بَعدُ المُحب الحَبيب

Farewell, and alas we will not meet

For I am no more the loving beloved

أَطيعي ذَويك بِما يَشتَهون

فَإِن لَهُم فَوقَ حَق الغَريب

Obey your family in what they desire

For they have a right above the stranger

وَلَكن تَعالَي أَلم تغدري

But come, did you not betray?
