  3. مهلاً فتاة الدير والحسن الذي

    تصبو له مهج العباد جميعا

    Wait, O maid of the monastery, and the beauty for which

    The souls of all worshippers yearn

  4. الحسن من حق الورى وحملتِه

    مستخفيا متأبيا ممنوعا

    Beauty is the right of creation, but you have carried it

    Hidden, stubborn, forbidden

  5. في الدير مثواه وفي جنح الدجى

    يتحدر الحسن الشهيد دموعا

    Its dwelling is the monastery, and in the wings of night

    The martyred beauty sheds tears

  6. يا مؤنس الدنيا فديتك موحشا

    تهتاج وجداً أو تضيق ضلوعا

    O companion of life, I ransom you, lonely

    Exultant with ecstasy or stifled with anguish

  7. تتحرق الدنيا عليك وربما

    أوقدت نفسك في الظلام شموعا

    The world burns with desire for you, and perhaps

    You have kindled your soul as candles in the darkness
