أدركت عندك يوميَ الموعودا

وافرحتي بك فرحة الطفل الذي

يلهو ويخلق كل يوم عيدا

My joy in you is like a child's,

Playing, making every day a feast.

وافرحتي بك فرحة الطير الذي

ملأ الروابي المصغيات نشيدا

My joy in you is like a bird's

Filling with song the listening valleys.

طربت لصدحته وصفق ظافراً

جذلان في عرض الفضاء سعيدا

I delighted in its ringing, and it fluttered triumphantly,

A proud migrant in the open sky.

في موكب من قلبه وحبيبه

من راح تحسبه العيون وحيدا

In a procession of its heart and its beloved,

Eyes mistook it wandering alone.

وافرحتي بك فرحة الضال الذي

يطوي القفار اللافحات شريدا

My joy in you is like a lost one's

Who traverses the barren wastes astray,

لاحت له بعد الهواجر أيكة

غنّاء تبسط ظلها الممدودا

And there appears to him, after estrangement,

A loving shelter spreading wide its shade.

ما أعجب الدنيا التي بعث الهوى

وأحالها روضاً أغر جديدا

How wondrous is the world the love breathed into,

And made anew a fresh-bloomed garden.

شتى غرائبها وأعجبها فتى

يغدو لمهجته عليك حسودا

All its marvels and most wondrous of all

Is a youth enraptured only by your beauty.

يتهالكان على جمالك صبوة

يتنافسان ضراعه وسجودا

Rivals in passion, vying in submission,

Each claims you as his own beloved.

يتنازعانك غيرة وتغضباً

كل يراك حبيبه المعبودا

Jealous, angry, each sees you as his lover;

All worship alone at your feet.

ما أعجب الإيمان يغمر خاطري

كالفجر قد غمر السماء وئيدا

How wondrous is the faith suffusing my heart,

Like dawn suffusing the vacant sky.

مزقتِ شكي فاسترحتُ لأعين

علمنني الإيمان والتوحيدا

You tore my doubts away and I found rest

In eyes teaching me faith and oneness.
