    Calm him after long suffering

  5. وا ضياع الحزن والدم

    ع على العمر المضاع

    And the loss of sorrow and blood

    Spilled carelessly in life

  6. وهتاف القلب بالشك

    وى على غير انتفاع

    And the heart’s cries of doubt

    With no use or gain

  7. ما يهمّ الناس من نج

    م على وشك الزماع

    What people seek of stars

    On the verge of setting

  8. غاب من بعد طلوعٍ

    وخبا بعد التماع

    It disappeared after rising

    And faded after shining

  9. طال بي سُهدي وإِعيا

    ئي وقد حان اضطجاعي

    My worries and griefs prolonged

    And my tears overflowed

  10. وإذا الراحة حانت

    بعد لأيٍ ونزاع

    And when rest comes

    After agony and conflict

  11. فصدور الغيد سيَّا

    ن وأنياب السباع

    The chests of friends will be consoled

    And claws of enemies blunted

  12. آه لو تقضي الليا

    لي لشتيت باجتماع

    Oh, if only the nights would end

    My scattering in union

  13. كم تمنيتُ وكم من

    أملٍ مرّ الخداع

    How I wished and how many

    Hopes betrayed me

  14. وقفة أقرأ فيها

    لك أشعار الوداع

    A pause where I can read

    To you poems of farewell

  15. ساعة أغفر فيها

    لك أجيال امتناع

    An hour where I can forgive

    Generations of refusal

  16. يا مناجاتي وسرِّي

    وخيالي وابتداعي

    Oh my confidant, my secret

    My imagination and creativity

  17. ومتاعاً لعيوني

    وشميمي وسماعي

    And a solace for my eyes

    My breath and my hearing

  18. تبعث السلوى وتنسى ال

    موت مهتوك القناع

    You bring comfort and forget

    Death, worn out and torn

  19. دمعة الحزن التي تس

    كبها فوق ذراعي

    The teardrop of sorrow that flows

    Down my arm
