In me a yearning for tears overwhelms,
Though I fear my anguish and qualms,
Is this place, O exalted sanctuary,
My devotion and reverence embalms.
You're the abode of memories and their noble tomb,
The hidden fate in days gone by,
This is my solitude so bar me not,
What is it you fear, O kalans of mine?
'Tis but my custom I was wont to,
And loved in days of yore long past,
It took me to the wide horizons and led
My steps to this hallowed place cast.
Behold these slopes and blossoming flora,
When it rose effloresced by the rain,
As if my ears still hear in the sands' silence,
The soft footfalls in their wane.
And as if the whispers in every alley,
Did environ me in their bliss enshrined,
The verdant pine seemed to materialize,
Darkened in shades multichromed.
And the distant narrow rugged gorge appeared,
Stretching in gentle undulations,
Desolate, yet were my havens of joy,
And cradle of my elations.
Not to reminisce people gone by I came here,
In a place where I knew delight,
That wondrous forest, splendid and silent,
The exemplar of might.
And my heart is defiant like this forest,
Disdainful of the open plain,
Whoever desires to pour out one day their woes,
This is no place for
complaints and pain.
Say to the plaintive, why not prostrate yourself,
At the tomb of one dead of old?
Grow elsewhere untold.
The full moon rises to scale the horizon,
And crosses your gloomy veil,
O prince of darkness you seem confused
In thought and unsure in your flail.
Then you pass beyond the shrouds of night,
Casting your inflaming rays,
Whenever the earth nears your flooding light,
Emanating from your shining face.
And when the earth is illuminated by it,
The moist soil's gentle scent of morn,
It evokes the perfume of olden love,
Buried fragrance in souls worn.
O beloved valley never did I visit you,
Until I asked about my peers,
Where are my companions, where are my pains?
That aged me in those years.
My childhood returned until it was as though,
I never suffered tribulations untold,
O light-footed years, O charge of fate
Mighty like titans bold.
Every past youth you took away,
Leaving me but tears and regrets,
And pitied me flowers of memories,
Clung in their wither to life yet.
So greetings from me to those days,
How did they fare with great adversity?
I knew not that a wound from all
The pain you suffered becomes felicity.
And a feeling of bliss for me
After it is healed and mended,
So let the foolish of mind refrain,
And far-fetched sayings upended.
With worries untrue that donned their robes,
Made facades for their passion's sake,
And love they claimed was not theirs,
Nor did for it they ever ache.
Oh Dante who said of days glad,
That if days of grief passed them by,
They become the most wretched misery,
Woe is me, you bitter words supply.
Or if dusk comes after the morn,
Whose day was clear and bright,
It denies the light's existence, and becomes,
A sheer illusion as if unspied.
Those words, while true, are wondrous strange,
O immortal sorrowful one, how could you say?
By the purity of love's flame in the heart,
Luminous like a minaret's ray.
Never did we know in your abundant heart,
This confusion in beliefs lay,
Truly, I see no sincerity in joy,
Like sincerity joy in good memories' display.
But if the wretched a glimmer see,
In passion's embers that arose anew,
Hands stretched eager that it slip not,
From his hands its sparkle he'll subdue.
And by it a flash of lightning remains,
When rapidly past his eyes it flew,
Or his soul plunged into the haze,
Of memories the years amass and strew.
And on an injured mirror they run,
His copious compassionate tears issue,
Or this gladness from recalling the past,
You call evident torment and pain?
If my tears you see reproach me not,
Leave me be, I love the tears' reign,
Wipe not with your hands my tears away,
A heart ever anguished they sustain.
My tears are a cascading veil over a past,
That has assumed all it can reclaim,
