شِركاً تضيقُ بإثمه الرحماتُ

O Lord, Your forgiveness, I have worshipped You as an idolater

An idolatry whose sin narrows down the mercies

أنتَ الذي خَلَقَ الحياةَ وإنما

قَبلَ الهوى تلكَ الحياةُ مماتُ

You are the One who created life, yet

Before desire, that life is death

عيونُ ليلى قد خلقنَ بِيَ الهوى

فإذا هواها للحياةِ حياةُ

The eyes of Layla created in me desire

So if I desire her, she is life to life

يا ربِّ صَفحاً تلك آلهةُ الهوى

فلها عليَّ عبادةٌ وصلاةُ
