أقبل بموكبك الأغَر

ما أظمأَ الأبصارَ لك

Come with your radiant procession,

How thirsty the eyes are for you,

العين بعدك يا قمر

عمياءُ والدنيا حلَك

After you, oh moon,

The eye is blind and the world is your realm.

تمضي وراءَ سحابة

تحنو عليك وتلثُمك

You pass behind a cloud,

That leans toward you and kisses you,

وأنا رهين كآبة

بخواطري أتوهَّمك

While I remain a captive of gloom

Imagining you in my thoughts.

كن حيث شئت فما أنا

إلا معنَّى بالمحال

Be wherever you wish, for I

Am but a possibility in the impossible,

أغدو لقدسك بالمنى

وأزور عرشك بالخيالِ

I go on pilgrimage to your sanctity

And visit your throne in my imagination,

وأقول صبراً كلَّما

عزَّ الفكاك على الأسير

And I say patience, whenever

Escape is too difficult for the captive,

روحي وروحك ربما

طابا عناقاً في الأثير

Perhaps my soul and your soul

Will embrace gently in the ether,

مهما تسامى موضعُك

وعلا مكانك في الوجود

No matter how high your place rises

And how lofty your existence is,

فأنا خيالك أتبعُك

ظمآن أرشف ما تجود

For I, your imagination, follow you,

Thirstily sipping your overflowing generosity.

قمرَ الأماني يا قمر

إني بهمٍّ مسقمِ

Oh moon of my wishes, oh moon

I am sick with longing,

أنت الشفاء المدَّخر

فاسكب ضياءك في دمي

You are the stored cure,

So pour your light into my blood.

أفرغ خلودك في الشباب

واخلع على قلبي الصفاء

Instill your eternity into my youth

And confer purity upon my heart,

أسفاً لعمر كالحباب

والكأس فائضة شقاء

Alas for a life like mirage

And a cup overflowing with misery.

خذني إليك ونجّني

مما أُعاني في الثرى

Take me to you and save me

From what I suffer in the dust,

قدحي ترنَّق فاسقني

قدح الشعاع مطهّر

For my cup has tarnished, so quench my thirst,

With the purifying cup of your rays.

واهاً لأحلامٍ طوال

وأنا وأنتَ بمعزلِ

Woe to prolonged dreams,

While you and I are secluded,

نَعلو على قمم الجبال

ونرى العوالم من عَلِ

Rising above the mountain tops,

And seeing the worlds from above.
