معوِّدتي الغفرانَ لِلذَّنب وَالرِّضى
أَسَأتُ فُقولي قَد وَهبتُ لَكَ الذَّنبا
My tormentress, grant pardon for my sin—and your favor;
I have wronged you; so say, “I have forgiven your offense.”
فَما كانَ ما بُلّغتِ إِلّا تَكذّبا
وَلكِنّ إِقراري بِه يَعطِف القَلبا
For what you were told was nothing but falsehood;
but my confession of it softens the heart.
فَما العَين مِنّي مُذ شَخصتِ قَريرَةً
وَلا الأَرضُ أَو تَرضَين تَقبَل لي جَنبا
Since you departed, this eye of mine has known no cool repose,
nor, until you are pleased, will the earth receive my side.
