أَحسَبُ النَّومَ حَكاكا
إِذ رَأى مِثل جَفاكا
I think sleep has imitated you,
seeing coldness like your own.
مِنّيَ الصَّبرُ وَمِنكَ ال
هَجرُ فَابلغ بي مَداكا
From me comes patience; from you comes—
estrangement. Take me as far as you can.
بَعُدت هِمّةُ عَين
طَمِعت في أَن تَراكا
Too lofty was the ambition of an eye
that dared to hope it might see you.
أَوَ ما حَظٌّ لِعَيني
أَن تَرى مَن قَد رَآكا
Is it not fortune enough for my eye
to see someone who has seen you?
لَيتَ حَظّي مِنكَ أَن
تَعلَم ما بي مِن هَواكا
If only my share of you were this—
that you knew the love of you within me.
