فَإِن تَكُن الدُّنيا أَنالتكَ ثَروَة
فَأَصبَحتَ ذا يُسر وَقَد كُنتَ في عُسر
If this world has bestowed riches upon you,
And you have come into ease, though once you were in hardship,
لَقَد كَشَف الإِثراءُ عَنكَ مساوِيا
مِن اللُّؤمِ كانَت تَحتَ ثَوب من الفَقر
Prosperity has indeed exposed vices in you—
Vices born of baseness, once hidden beneath poverty’s cloak.
