وَلَم تدر يَوم البَين أَنّي وَأَنّها
أَشَدّ اِكتِئاباً بِالفراقِ وَأَوجَع
You knew not on the day we parted, that I and she
Would be more sad and sorrowful for the farewell.
جَرَت عَبرَةٌ مِنها وَأذريتُ عَبرَة
وَحالَت جُفون بَينَ ذلِك تَدمَع
Tears flowed from her, while I let fall tears,
And eyelids were between this flowing wet.
وَرُمنا وَداعاً فَاِستَمَرّت بِنا نَوىً
قَذوفٌ وَبعض النَأي لِلشَّمل أَجمَع
We said farewell, but intentions pulled us together,
Like flint stones, though separated, strike spark and fire.
