ترى ينسخ الإصباح من ظلمة القبر
ويكسر برد الموت محيٍ من الحر
You see dawn efface the darkness of the grave,
and a reviver born of warmth break death’s cold.
أما هاتف يرثي لنفس يقيمها
ويقعدها قولي ليها الدهر لا أدري
Is there no caller to mourn a soul and raise it,
then lay it low? Say to her: “Fate—I do not know.”
إذا التام بطن الأرض يوماً على الفتى
أيخطو الحمام العقل أم هو يصرع
When, one day, the earth’s belly closes around the young man,
does reason step beyond Death, or is it struck down?
وكيف توارى نوره مستطيلة
على حين قد ضاقت به الأرض أجمع
And how did his far-stretching light disappear,
when the whole earth had grown too narrow for him?
