تناءت على قرب الديار السرائر

فليس لما بيني وبينك آخر

The secrets drew near the ruins of the abode

لقد كان ظني أن لي منك وامقاً

على حين حفت بي الحقوق النوائر

I thought I had a firm rope extended from you

While misfortunes have surrounded me

فلما بدت لي نفرة الغدر منكم

رضيت بما تقضي به وهو جائر

When your betrayal became evident

I was content with the injustice of fate

فلا تعذلوني في الجفاء فإنني

أنزه قلبي أن يرى وهو صاغر

So do not blame me for estrangement, for I

Have purified my heart from seeing while humiliated

هويتك بالقلب البريء من الحجا

وإنني بالعقل السليم لهاجر

I loved you with the innocent heart, free of blemish

Yet I flee with the sound mind

تقلص ظل الحب بعد امتداده

وجف هوانا بعد إذ هو ناضر

The shadow of love has shrunk after its expansion

And the radiance has dried after it was blossoming

أحالته أخلاق العقوق وغدره

عهوداً تبكيها القلوب الذواكر

Your immoral betrayal and treachery

Have turned pledges that hearts reminisce over into ruin

كأن الجوى واليأس والسهد والضنى

ديونق على من ضاءه منك ناظر

As if estrangement, despair, desolation and heartache

Are debts upon anyone who saw you

على أنه سيان كربٌ وفرحةٌ

فكلٌّ تعفيه الليالي الدوائر

Though misfortune and joy are equal

For both are subject to the cycles of time

ستعلم أن الحسن ليس بدائم

وأن العيون الزهر يوماً غوائر

You will know beauty is not everlasting

And eyes that are flowers will one day depart

ويصرف عنك الشيون قلوبهم

وتغضى غداً عنك اللحاظ الغوادر

Hearts will turn away from you

And gazes will tomorrow avert from you

كأني بهذا الحسن قد جف ماؤه

وباخ ضياءٌ في المحاجر باهر

It is as if this beauty, its water has dried up

And a brilliant light remains in pupils shining

يحاول أن يسبي القلوب كعهده

ويطلب أن تصبو وهن نوافر

It tries to captivate hearts as it used to

And seeks overflowing passion

ستبصرني جلداً على الدهر عارفاً

فليتك مثلي إن تقاضاك صابر

You will see me disciplined, knowing the fate

I wish you were like me, if destiny has afflicted you

وليتك إذهباً على القلب لم تهن

علينا ولكني على ذاك شاكر

I wish that you were forbearing if passion has not subsided

We did not give in, but I thank that

فإن تنحرف فالحسن جمٌّ وجوده

وأهون بما منه لدينا نظائر

If you deviate, beauty in entirety is its existence

And we have equivalents for the least of it

طوى الدهر ما بيني وبينك من هوى

وليس لما يطوي زمانك ناشر

Time has folded what was between me and you of love

And nothing can unfold what time has folded

وما ندمي إلا على كلفي بكم

فهل لي من تلك الجناية عاذر

I regret nothing but my efforts for you

Do I have any excuse for that crime?

نبذتك نبذ النعل رث أديمها

وإني على أمثال ذاك لقادر

I discarded you like discarding worn shoes

And I am capable of the likes of that

إذا ما أراد اللضه بالمرء رحمة

فسهم الأذى عن مرشق الحظ جائر

When God wants mercy for someone

The arrow of harm misses the target of fortune

لقد حاطت الأقدار نفسي من الذي

تكيد وقد دارت عليه الدوائر

Fate has surrounded my soul with one whoschemes

And cycles have gone around him

رويدك لا يهلك جهلك إنني

رضيٌّ ولكني على الشر قادر

Slow down, do not let your ignorance destroy you, I am pleased

But I am capable of resisting evil

وإني لصلٌّ لين مسٍّ وإن لي

لأنياب سوء ساندتها أظافر

I am kind, gentle, forgiving, even if

I have evil fangs reinforced by claws

وحسبك إما شئت ضرك شردٌ

يباديك منها حيثما كانت ناحر

It is enough for you, whatever evil you want

Its harm counters you wherever it may be

ولكنني أغضيت عنك تكرما

وإن كثرت أوزاركم والجرائر

But I have forgiven you out of generosity

Even if your sins and crimes are many

فرح غانماً بالصفح ممن إذا رمى

فلا تجبر الأيام ما هو كاسر

So rejoice at forgiveness from one who, if he shoots

Do not force days to break what is fragile

ومن عجب تأبى النسيب ضلالة

وما ذاك للأحرار غيرك ضائر

It is wondrous that a relative strays into misguidance

That does not harm anyone but you

فياليت شعري والعجائب جمة

أيرضيك أن يغرى بذمك شاعر

I wish I knew, as wonders are many

Are you pleased that a poet dispraises you?

أغرك مني أنني أظهر الهوى

أبى الزهو أن يبقى بعشك طائر

Has it deluded you that I show passion?

Haughtiness refused to remain a bird in your nest

فرحت تبث الناس أخبار صبوتي

وتزعم أني عاشق وتفاخر

You were happy to spread news of my love

And claim I am a lover and boast

رويدك لا تجعل هواي ذريعة

لشيء ترجيه كأنك تاجر

Slow down, do not make my love an excuse

For something you want as if you are bargaining

فجرت عيون الدمع فابك بأربع

على حين يفتر العدو المناكر

So eyes of tears flowed and I cried over

While the hostile enemy denies

أدرت رحى حرب عليك طحينها

عفافك فانظر أي خطب تحاذر

I turned the mill of war over you, its flour

Is your chastity, so see what you should beware

وقل يرحم اللَه السكينة والمنى

وخفضاً وريفا أعجلته المقادر

And say, may God have mercy on tranquility and wishes

And humility and countryside hastened by fate
