1. أغرقت في بحر الأسى الأجذالا

    ولفقت في أكفانها الآمالا

    I drowned in a sea of anguish and sorrow

    And my hopes were shrouded in its waves

  2. ونزلت في وادي الهوى متفيئاً

    للموت ظلّاً ينسخ الآجلا

    I descended into the valley of love seeking shelter

    In death's shadow that brings closer one's fate

  3. كيف الجوى شمس الحياة فأظلمت

    وأعاد زاخر لجتها أوشالا

    How did the sun of life darken?

    And its radiance return turbid

  4. عصفت بنا ثوب الليالي عصفة

    تركت حياتي بعدها أطلالا

    The night winds blew us about

    Leaving my life afterwards in ruins

  5. وتجايشت لجج الزمان بصدره

    وتوصبت سيلاً إلي عضالا

    And the tides of time surged in its chest

    Flowing violently towards me

  6. فرعيت من دهير زماناً موبئاً

    يجنى السموم وينبت الأهوالا

    I pastured in an era, sick and contagious

    That reaps poisons and sprouts horrors

  7. يا شمس من يحيي الليالي ساهراً

    ما بال ضوئك بارداً جفالا

    O sun that keeps the nights sleepless

    Why has your light turned cold and scant?

  8. يرخى الظلام سدوله فتعينه

    وترى العيون سواده القتالا

    Darkness spreads its veils so help it

    And eyes see only its black battles

  9. ما أنت إلّا كاللذاذات التي

    جرت عليها الأعصر الأذيالا

    You are but pleasures that

    Were swept by the passing ages

  10. ليضيئنا الماضي ولكن لا ترى

    لشعاعه حرّاً ولا إشعالا

    To illuminate our past, but your rays

    No longer burn with warmth or flames

  11. خلع الحمام على الظلام سكونه

    فكأنما همد الوجود كلالا

    The doves shed their tranquility on the darkness

    As if existence itself grew weary and faded

  12. وتكنف الدنيا سكونٌ نطاق

    ملء الصدور مهابةً وجلالا

    A silence enveloped the world like a shroud

    Filling hearts with awe and reverence

  13. وكأنما هذي السماء تزينها

    زهر النجوم الفاتنات جمالا

    As if the sky was adorned

    With the beautiful flowers of twinkling stars

  14. سترٌ على الأكوان أسدله الهوى

    لما غفت وأفاضه سربالا

    The passion drew a veil over the universe

    When it slept, spreading it like a gown

  15. خلق الإله الكون أروع منظراً

    وأجل وتصويراً وأبدع حالا

    God created the most beautiful universe

    Glorious, perfectly designed and unparalleled

  16. وكسا وجوه الأرض روضاً ضاحكا

    حاك الرياب ثيابه وأطالا

    He clothed the earth's face in laughing meadows

    Weaving its dress and lengthening it

  17. وحبا الطيور الصادحات وكورها

    بين الرياض الوارفات ضلالا

    And gifted the chirping birds their nests

    Among the widespread lush gardens

  18. وأقر في قاع البحار قطينها

    والدود في جوف الثرى الجوالا

    He settled the whales in the depths of oceans

    And the worms in the roaming earth

  19. واختص آدم بالشقاء ونسله

    وحباهم الآلام والآمالا

    Yet chose Adam and his progeny for misery

    Granting them woes and hopes

  20. يا أم ذي الدنيا ولست شبيةً

    باللَه رب المخطئين تعالى

    O mother of this world, you are not

    Like the Lord of the mistaken, Most High

  21. ما تطلبين صلاتنا وصيامنا

    أو تنكرين جحودنا الأفضالا

    You ask not for our prayers or fasting

    Nor deny our neglect of bounties

  22. سيان عندك حافظٌ ومضيع

    والمحسنون ومن أساء فعالا

    The devout and the heedless are equal to you

    And those who do good or evil

  23. كلٌّ يلوذ بظل عطفك دائبا

    بوركت من أم تفيض كمالا

    All seek refuge in your endless kindness

    Blessed are you, a mother brimming with grace

  24. وكرمت حتى لست تدرين الهوى

    والبغض والأطماع والأوجالا

    So noble you know not passion or hate

    Or greed and wickedness so base

  25. سبحانها عما يحس بنو الردى

    فلقد حماك جلالك الأشغالا

    Glory to Her, beyond what the fallen can feel

    For your majesty has protected you from all disgrace

  26. ستثور عاصفة الليالي ثورة

    ثجلو الشكوك وتدفع الإشكالا

    The storm of nights will rage

    Shattering doubts and confusions

  27. وتدق فوق خرائب الأديان نا

    قوس الردى وتحيلها أغفالا

    And above the ruins of religions will rise

    The bow of ruin turning them to oblivion

  28. وترد للقلوب حقاً نره

    إياه من منى النفوس ضلالا

    And return to hearts a truth we knew

    But which was lost to souls in misguidance

  29. يا أم ذي الدنيا فلا تأسى على

    ما كان من جهل وإن يك طالا

    O mother of this world, do not grieve

    Over the ignorance, however long
