قمر يحلم في لج السما

باهت اللألاء من طول السهد

A moon dreams in the haze of the sky

Faded in splendor from ceaseless vigil

ساكن يسخر منا كلما

قام بالقلب حنين وقعد

Mocking, aloof, whenever yearning stirs

And ebbs again within my heart

ما أضل القلب بالليل وما

أضرب الوجد عليه بالسدد

Vain the heart that wanders in the night

In vain it strives for peace in aimless flight

ينفد الليل وإن طال وما

لعباب الهم ذي اللج نفد

The night, however long, comes to an end

But the sea of cares has no shore in sight
