إِنَّني مِن عُتَقَائِكْ

وبَقائِي مِنْ بَقائِكْ

I am one of your freed ones

And my survival depends on your survival

أَيُّ فنٍّ لحياتي

بعدَ بُعدي عن فِنَائك

What art is there to my life after being distanced from your demise?

O you who are departing, happiness

أَيها الرَّاحلُ إِن السَّعْـ

ـدَ مِنْ تَحتِ لِوائِكْ

Is under your banner

Either residing with you or among your friends

وهْوَ إِمَّا قاطنٌ عنـ

ـدَك أَو مِنْ رُفَقَائِكْ

If you depart, he is a companion

And a guest in your affection

هو إِنْ سرتَ عديلُ

ونزيلٌ بِحِنَائِك

Set out in God's name protected

By the armies of angels

سرْ على اسْم اللهِ محرو

ساً بأَجنادِ الملائِكْ

You are protected by them before you

Or behind you

من أَمامٍ أَنت محفو

ظٌ بهمْ أَو مِنْ وَرَائِكْ

And over all those

Whom you left as your successors

وعلى كلِّ الَّذي

خلَّفتهمْ من خُلَفَائِك

And they became the purest

All of them your most loyal

وهم الصَّافُون أَضْحَوا

كلُّهم من أَصْفِيائِك

Go on accompanied, for what is firmer

Than your resolve?

وامضِ مصحوباً فما السيـ

ـفُ بأَمْضَى مِنْ مَضَائِكْ

Through your forefathers you reached

The heights, and your fathers

فبآبائِك قد نِلْـ

ـتَ المعالِي وإِبَائِك

The cheeks of their steeds glow

Either by your brightness or your sublimeness

بسَنَا وجْهِك يسرِي

ركْبُهم أَو بِسنَائِك

And you see comfort in what

They reckoned was your tribulation

وترى الرَّاحةَ فيما

حَسِبُوه مِنْ عَنائِكْ

And you see above their excellent horses

Carpets and your carriages

وتُرى فوقَ جيادِ

وهْي فُرْشٌ وأَرَائِك

The land of Damascus will be folded for you

Yearning for your arrival

سوف تُطْوَى لكَ أَرْضُ

الشامِ شَوْقاً لِلِقَائِكْ

And the roads will be lit for those

Traveling by the light of your brilliance

وتُضيءُ الطُّرقَ للسا

رينَ من ضوْءِ بهَائِكْ

And miracles will appear

Witnessing your devotion

وستبدو معجزاتٌ

شاهداتٌ بولائِكْ

And the salty water will become honey

In your cup

ويصيرُ الماءُ وهْو الـ

ـمِلْحُ شَهْداً في إِنَائِكْ

And in Damascus you will see the greatness

Of elevation you were accustomed to

وتَرى في الشَّام ما عُوّ

دتَ من عِظْم اعْتِلاَئِكْ

And you will see above your hopes

And higher than your wishes

وتَرى فوقَ أَمانيـ

ـكَ وأَعْلَى مِنْ رَجَائِكْ

And you will find honor sincere

And pure from your loyal ones

وستلْقَى العِزَّ صفواً

خَالصاً مِنْ خُلصَائِكْ

And it will show in me what you concealed

Of the beauty of your contentment

وستُبدي فيَّ ما تُضْـ

ـمِرُه من حُسنِ رَائِكْ

And heal the sickness of my state

And my infirmity with your remedy

وتُداوِي سُقْمَ حالي

واعْتِلاَلي بِدَوَائِكْ

And remove the worry from me

And my ordeal with your care

وتُزِيلُ الهمَّ عَني

وعَنائِي باعْتِنَائِكْ

Nothing but your affection

Can cure my sorrow

إِنَّه ليْس يُداوي

حزنيَ غيرُ هَنَائِكْ

And by God's permission when you desire

You will settle for me

وسَتَقْضِي لي بإِذْن

اللهِ ذَا قَبْلَ اقْتِضَائِكْ

And my state is gloomy without

The light of your brilliance

وحديثي أَنَّ حَاليَ

مُظْلِمٌ بَعْدَ ضِيَائِكْ

And so my mornings become

The color of your evenings

وكَذَا يَغْدوا صَباحي

لَونُه لونُ مَسائِكْ

O reverberation on my land, when you depart

Heading towards your sky

يا صَدَى أَرْضِي إِذا سر

تَ إِلى صَوْبِ سَمَائِك

When you left I became

One whom you left behind without accompaniment

صِرتُ إِذ سرتَ

وقد خلَّفْتَني من أُسَرائِكْ

If only I was truly departing

With your saints

ليتَني لو كنتُ حقاً

سائراً معْ أَوْلِيَائِكْ

To see the light of my eyes

And heart from your meadows

وأُروِّي نورَ عينيَّ

وقَلْبي مِن رُوَائِكْ

And to hear it listen

To the sound of your call

وأُلبِّي أَن يسمِّـ

ـعَه صوتُ نِدَائِك

And to see me praising you

In verse with your praise

وتَرانِي وأَنا حا

ديكَ أَحْدو بِثَنَائِكْ

And exceeding people when I praise you

The highest of your poets

وتفوقُ الخلقَ إِذ حَا

دِيكَ أَعْلَى شُعرَائِكْ

And to see my cheek walking

A stride matching your steps

وترى خَدَّيّ إِذ تمـ

ـشي شِراكاً لِحذَائِكْ

I am your slave bought

By your charity

أَنا عبدٌ لك قِنٌّ

حُزتَ رقِّي بِشرَائِكْ

By your generous hands

Well known to me by your gifts

بأَيَاديكَ بمعرو

فِك عِنْدِي بِعَطَائِكْ

So remember your promise to me

As I remember your affection

فاذكرَنْ عهدَك مِنِّي

مثلَ ذِكرِي لحِبائِك

How can you forget me while forgetting

Your loyalty is far from you

كيف تَنْساني وحاشا

كَ وحَاشَا لوفَائِكْ
