أَهْوى طويلَ القدِّ كَمْ عاذلٍ

في طُولِهِ أَكثرَ تطويلَه

في طُولِهِ أَكثرَ تطويلَه

I love one tall of stature—how many a reproacher

has gone on at excessive length about his height!

ما طوله عن كِبرٍ إِنَّما

ما طوله عن كِبرٍ إِنَّما

طَوَّلَهُ فَرْطُ عِناقِي لَهُ

طَوَّلَهُ فَرْطُ عِناقِي لَهُ

His height did not come from growing older; it was only

my excessive embracing of him that made him tall.
